Explosions In The Sky & David Wingo - Send Off
#MidnightSpecial by #DavidWingo Anytime Wingo is chosen for a project, it usually means the director was looking for a more subdued soundscape to match their vision. While Wingo is proficient in using various sound textures and design to meet the film's needs, he doesn't really do anything 'special' here. Wingo is on autopilot here and it is clear on first listen. 🎶 Now Playing: Marshland 🎶
#TakeShelter by #DavidWingo Highs - Wingo's ominous and minimalist score works well within the confines of the film/ Tracks blend well together and is enjoyable if listened to as a whole rather than through individual tracks Lows - Minimalist tracks can feel tedious without having the context of the film to support it Highlights - "Storm Shelter", "At The Beach" Final Impression - David Wingo's eerie score is best heard in the film as it's strength is in matching Nichols' direction through minimalist structures and mysterious soundscapes Final Score - 7/10

The score “Joe” by Jeff Mcilwain and David Wingo is nothing but pure soundscape design. Although you will hear a certain repeated motif that is first introduced in “Sharpening Knives”, the overall score is made up of sonic textures, sparse piano and unnerving tones. In the film, the score works well and most people don’t seem to realize the effort it takes into creating good sound design that matches a scene or character’s mood. Wingo and Mcilwain pull it off with this one but the listener has to be in a certain mood and/or appreciate sound design scoring to fully enjoy it - 6.5/10.
