One of the most multi-talented drag queens working today Asia O'Hara has applied her skills to costume design, dance instruction, performance, and pageantry—as winner of the 2016 Miss Gay America. At Hollywood's famed corner of Hollywood and Vine, British figurative painter and muralist David Puck recently painted O'Hara in solidarity with @BlkLivesMatter and the current civil rights protests. Change is inevitable says Puck, and we need to embrace it. "Drag in itself is about redefining our own reality and creating beauty within our world." Puck uses this portrait to create an analogy between the transformation of a butterfly and the need for "dissolution and reformation of racist systems, in order to rebuild a fairer more beautiful society."  @davidpuckartist/  @asiaoharaland/

Of Puerto Rican descent, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo is the stage name of Tampa-born José Cancel, the performer probably most widely known for her appearance on "RuPaul's Drag Race." British figurative artist David Puck—self-described "queer nomad painter"—set up his first ever Los Angeles studio last year, in a shared warehouse space on E 11th St and promptly added this colorful mark outside. Puck says he "wanted to paint a Latina queen to go with the community here in East LA" going on to add... "Who doesn't want to say hi to Vanjie every morning.
