The Ocean had it's Chance
A white line slithered along the distance, rising, building, sucking in the ocean around it.
“Pa!” Elle pointed through the deluge with her saber as thunder bellowed above. “I think----a rogue wave---”
The cresting behemoth concealed the horizon, lazily folding over them, shielding them from the storm. Lightning bolted from cloud to cloud overhead, briefly illuminating something inside…. a shimmering unnatural shape, something that blinked back.
Teetering, looming, suspended in a string of heartbeats, the wave salivated over their boat. Elle cloaked the Fade around them as the wave descended, crashing into the bow with the force of a battering ram, plunging them headfirst into the sea.
The bow of the groaning ship sprang back up to the surface with the arrival of a new occupant, for the sailing ship unwillingly welcomed an additional passenger.
It’s feral glower pierced through her like an arrow and struck a chord that sung with something familiar. Human-like eyes reached into her like they saw through the scabs she covered her wounds with. Nine amber colored eyes crested upon a crowning temple; narrowed in on their crouching figures within the barrier, the ocean slathered from its parting jaws, revealing a fleet of shattered glass-like molars. From its belly bellowed a grave roar, scattering the wind and fleeing the rain.
A great frill erupted from its neck and into a mane that festooned around its narrow head, rattling in agitation like an Orlesian fan. But from its slippery surface something far more threatening arose. Hundreds of fangs flared into the air, rings of luminous opaline, like a shattered stained-glass window. It was equally mystifying and hypnotizing and for a moment, Elle forgot about her own fear.
A flash of silver and the sting of metal, an accessory was swiftly coiled around her neck. The Andraste pendent nestled at her breast and Kyler’s clammy palms enveloped her shoulders. “Elle! Freeze it!” However, Elle did not hear him.  She was transfixed with it’s shape. A barbed appendage swung from its backside, a wedge-like tail embellished with finger length thorns. It cut through the harrowing gale with pulsing sweeps, for It was siege weapon with the grace of surgical knife—It was a creature straight out of a nightmare, but just as beautiful as a daydream. “Elle! Now!” The monster charged.
