I attempted making a poem based off of my thoughts and feelings during the events in episode 9 season 2 "the measure of a man". I apologize for any mistakes in spelling and/or grammer.
I am not sure how good it is, however, I wanted to share this with you all.
What defines someone as their own person?
According to you, to be a person is to be intelligent,
It is to have consciousness.
Some would argue it is to be made of organic composition.
If that is true, then I am not a person.
Webster's Twenty Fourth Century Dictionary, Fifth Edition, defines an android as an automaton made
to resemble a human being.
In your mind, property of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
What is the difference between me and you?
The fact that I run on electricity?
Your nerves are organic wires, and your brain is a computer of flesh.
However, even I will not deny that I am not a member of the human species.
If I am not a human, am I person?
You define a person as someone who is:
And of having consciousness.
It is undeniable that I possess the first two qualities;
One may argue that I am more intelligent and self-aware than any common species that qualify as
Consciousness is hard to define.
Some say it is simply being aware of one's thoughts and feelings.
Some say it is something incomprehensible to even the smartest of beings.
If I do have any form of consciousness, then I am my own person.
I am not anyone's property but my own.
I am Lieutenant Commander Data of the U.S.S. enterprise.
