This extensive literature meant that many of the civilized cores in the planet were centered on where the databanks once stood. These gradually became centralized nation states, whose cultures and technologies diffused through colonization and cultural hegemony. The humans that reside in the planet draw their material culture from the predecessors of the levelers as encountered in their literature. Some of them claim direct cultural continuity with specific cultures whereas others adopt those best suited for the environment. Superficially, they may even visually resemble the overt material culture of a specific civilization, but may combine multiple disparate elements from different past cultures.

Besides urban civilizations, the planet also featured societies that stuck to a less technological subsistence existence of shifting agriculture or nomadic pastoralism. These often emerged in the centers of the continents where conventional agriculture proved impossible. Whereas some are independent cultures with their own traditions and mores, others represented the farthest fringe of otherwise settled nations.
