beonhwa ask meme #1 — ice breaker !⛄️ 🪙 : if the wishing well could grant you one true wish, what would it be?

the one wish that comes to the forefront of daewon's mind is something that would be so life-altering that he doesn't know if he would truly wish for it. if his mother were alive today, would he have met any of the people that he holds dear in his life currently? not wanting to entertain the thought, he opts for the next best option.

“i would wish to know the truth regarding my mother's death. i think that the night of the fire and what caused it have remained a mystery for far too long.”

🌲 : something you look forward to most this holiday season

“the mugunghwa gala, definitely not the socialization aspect of it, though. the kang family tends to outdo themselves every year with the refreshments served. i'm looking forward to seeing what sort of treats they'll have this year. on the topic of treats, i'm looking forward to being able to enjoy a nice cup of chai tea with a couple gingerbread cookies.”

rivers… isn’t quite as fond of the sweetbrier tea house. in actuality, he doesn’t go there enough to have much of an opinion but he supposes, if he did have a table there… “ having to sit with three people would be too excessive. i’d rather have a table to myself.”

in the back of his mind however, three names cross his mind. of all the people in beonhwa, rivers supposes that im daewon would probably be the one person he’d be able to tolerate. the second would be jeong siwoo (for extremely questionable reasons). and lastly, he figures it’d be amusing to trap kang dasom at a table with him in a place as public as the sweetbrier tea house where she has to mind her manners.

the second question prompts a bitter scoff from rivers. “wishes don’t come true. what’s the point of wasting time wondering something like that?”

despite his choice of words, if there was one true wish that rivers ever had the chance of getting granted in this lifetime, it would have been the convenience of living alone- completely isolated. the truth was that rivers was more than capable of doing so but there were certain luxuries (read smokes and painting materials) that he wouldn’t have easy access to if he did choose to live somewhere devoid of people.

yeonsu smiles at the thought and recalls all the memories that come with the question. “back home, every winter it was a tradition for us to spend a weekend making tangerine jam. well, usually it was tangerine but if there was a different fruit we had excess of then we’d use that.”

“we’d ration what we were able to make throughout the year and if we had more, we’d gift some during the holiday season to neighbors.” with that thought, yeonsu wonders how the weekend session of jam making went this year. he also wonders if his family has enough to send him a jar or two to use for himself whenever he’s feeling homesick.

the next question has yeonsu considering a little more. “hmm, i suppose if we got caught in a snowstorm together finding or making shelter would be the most important thing depending on where we are. the snowstorms i’ve experienced outside of the capital were nasty, but as long as you don’t panic and know what to do, everything will be fine.”

“all in all, i think we’d manage to be safe- you wouldn’t have to worry, miss kang.”

she taps the tips of her chin with a perfectly manicured nail for a moment, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. "a prince, another prince, and perhaps the heir to a wondrous fortune, even if he isn't a prince?" the she keeps her sincere answer close to her chest, unable and unwilling to admit her vulnerability, she can't help but think she'd enjoy inviting her dad and brothers, if they'd even spare her the time these days.
