My Review of Gunston Animal Hospital in Lorton, Virginia
Back in October 2003, my husband and I moved to Fort Belvoir, a military installation in Fairfax, Virginia, we were in the company of our two beagles, Flea and MacGregor, for most of the time we have lived through the post. Although Fort Belvoir has a veterinary clinic that offers basic services for dogs and cats living in post, we need to find a veterinarian when civil Flea and MacGregor needed more than heartworm preventive or basic shots. I happened to see the sign for Gunston Animal Hospital one day when we were exploring the area on Route 1, about five miles south of the post. We took the flea, our older beagle at Gunston Animal Hospital for the first time in November 2003, when he first adopted by the BREW (Beagle Rescue Education and Welfare). Flea was a stray that was found on a roadside in a rural area near Richmond, Virginia. We knew it had suffered from heartworms and Lyme disease, he has adopted before and I wanted to make sure she was okay. We made an appointment to see for Flea to the vet for a physical base and a heartworm test. My husband and I took flea Gunston Animal Hospital one Saturday afternoon in November 2003. I was immediately struck by the sweet and gentle vet tech was when he checked the temperature Flea and asked us to history flea. She spoke to him kindly, offered him a treatment, and showed an obvious affection for the animals. ; Before too long, we met with Dr. Heather Hurst, one of five regular veterinary staff at Dr. Gunston. Hurst is a graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. It 'easy to talk to, very knowledgeable, and also obviously loves his patients. Even if Dr. Hurst is not only Gunston Animal Hospital veterinarian, my husband and I saw him more often than the other four veterans for staff. I always found her to be very pleasant and willing to answer questions. As it turned out, Flea heartworm test was positive. , Dr. Hurst said he was recently been treated for heartworms, the test may be a false positive she told us to bring it back to be reviewed in three months and credited our bill so that the second test. ;. We made plans would be free to bring Flea back in February 2004 and thought we'd your teeth cleaned while we were in it a keen eye veterinary technician noticed that Flea heartworm test was positive. So she contacted the hospital in Richmond, where he was treated for heartworms before they adopted him. The staff at the hospital in Richmond coach said that the woman who had favored Flea before he had taken the led in the first part of the treatment, but was never followed by the second part. We could not have Flea teeth clean until he was clear of heartworms. We were not happy that Flea had heartworms, but we were very impressed that the vet tech at Gunston was smart enough to take the test heartworm positive. We got him treated for heartworm and Flea done great since then. We decided it would be our main Gunston veterinary hospital, after that experience. Gunston Animal Hospital is a small operation, but the staff is well qualified. Is there a nurse on duty at night and the hospital employs several licensed veterinary tech. Gunston offers a wide range of veterinary services, but is connected with other local veterinary clinics for emergency care and cases that are beyond their ability to provide treatment. I always feel confident that Flea and MacGregor will have access to the care they need. The staff is also very good that I called to give me the test results. Whenever it's time for my dogs to get shots or routine physicals, Gunston PET sends us a magazine with an insert that lists what needs Flea and MacGregor. The magazine is fun to read and informative.Gunston Animal Hospital offers boarding and grooming, too. Last year, we went on vacation and left on Gunston Flea and MacGregor for a few days. The staff took great care of our dogs. We noticed that when we have picked up, they were very happy to see us, but not traumatized or frightened. A few months later, when I brought in some MacGregor for routine veterinary care and treatment for a troublesome yeast infection in his ears, the vet tech remembered him and gave him lots of love and affection. MacGregor is usually afraid of people who do not know, but she loves the staff Gunston. Anyone with a dog or a cat knows that the vet bills can be expensive. Gunston Animal Hospital is not cheap, but veterinarians are very willing to offer quotes before providing expensive treatments. We also appreciate the fact that the staff never makes you feel guilty when we ask how much treatments and expensive medications. They are sensitive to the fact that not everyone has unlimited money to spend on veterinary care. The last time I took one of our dogs to Gunston for treatment, the vet recommended a couple of generic drugs can be purchased over the counter in a drug store and would work as well as prescription drugs. What saved us significant. Most of the time when I take our dogs to Gunston, I have the waiting room to myself. The last time I visited, the secretary told me that they were renovating the waiting area to make it more comfortable for clients and their pets. I've never had trouble finding an appointment on time and when I have to wait, the receptionist gives me usually a tribute ..! There is also a soda television in the waiting room and ample parking is free, a rare feature in the northern Virginia Gunston Animal Hospital was a pain to get there, because there was a lot of construction going on Route 1 . However, construction was completed and now it's easy to get to the hospital at Fort Belvoir.Although I never look forward to taking the dog to the vet, the staff at Gunston Animal Hospital does its best to make the experience as painless possible. Veterinarians are very approachable, professional and competent support staff is good and kind to my dogs, and the reception is pleasant and efficient. , If you live in southern Fairfax County and are looking for a good vet, Gunston Animal Hospital is a good bet Gunston Animal Hospital7685 Armistead Road Lorton, VA 22079 (703) 339-7725 Office Hours Monday! - Friday: 7:30 to 7:00 Saturday: 7:30 to 12:00 Medical Hours: Monday - Friday: 9:00 to 12:00, and 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Saturday: 9.00 - 12.00
