Nirvana - "Bleach" (S>U>B P<O<P cat. SP 34 (White Vinyl w/ poster)) Definitely a Pier Platters purchase. By the release of this LP my obsession with all things heavy as opposed to my previous obsession with all things fast - Hardcore, which was sadly dead by 1987 and taken over by Suburban Metal kids who, because of Hair Metal, I assume were too embarrassed to use that moniker and co-opted the name. The pre Pearl Jam Seattle / North West scene provided an aggressive replacement for Hardcore combining Punk with 70's Hard Rock. They took the best aspects of The Stooges, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, etc and combined it with Black Flag, local favorites - The Wipers, the classic Sire catalog, early Hardcore, and 60's Garage. There were bands elsewhere doing this sound and locally, in NYC, there was Das Damen. Recorded for $606.17 this LP never lets up from start to finish. There are hints of their Pop capabilities but those moments didn't soften the overall sound.
