Salute my mentor！ #Repost @dlmasterbarber ・・・ Wow!! I remember this picture like it was yesterday... Owning my own barber shop at the age 19 years old. I was an aggressive young barber turning nothing down but my collar. I would pass out business cards to every man women and child I came in contact with. I gave out first haircut free!! I averaged no less then 40 to 45 clients every day. I opened every morning at 6am closing whenever I got finished, most of the time after midnight. My shop was always closed Sundays and Mondays, but I did celebrity house calls and or on location cuts at $1,000 a cut no exception!!! And I was getting paid these amounts and more in the late 80’s. The most expensive edged up I ever got paid for NO HAIRCUT just a edge up $4,500 the first time I did Notorious BIG Just because I made myself available at the last minute. I was in and out in 15 min!!! My biggest tip $5,000 for one haircut(haircut fee not included)came from Meshack Taylor that ⭐️ on the television show Designing Women. You see I believed in myself, I believed in my craft, I believed in my skill set and most importantly getting paid for my TIME!!! I was never a celebrity barber. You see It was an honor just to be called a BARBER!!! I was a young barber going through the process of becoming a Master Barber which takes time. The reason why I’m telling you about my early years experiences because I want all barber and stylist to know that its POSSIBLE!! No matter what your circumstances are or your present situation. You can change it. The barbers and stylist of today are the best skill set wise I’ve ever seen in my entire life. And I believe you should get paid for what you are worth and in my eyes that’s a lot of money that’s being left on the table!!! I do know this for sure there is ☝️ thing money can’t buy and that’s experience!!! You just have to go through some thing to get it. My suggestion is be patient. Set the TONE, set the STANDARD, be DIFFERENT. And most importantly BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!
