I visited the town of Serpentine, Noongar Country (South-West Australia) in February this year.
It was the height of the Bunuru (second summer) season, so it was very hot and everything was really dry. Although that particular day that I went was cooler than usual, reaching a maximum of 27.5 so it was quite pleasant to walk. Just for comparison, the day before reached a maximum of 41.7, and the day after was 37.4
The hill in the first photo is part of the Darling Range/Katamordo, which is the ancient continental shelf of the Yilgarn Craton.
The bordering Perth Basin is mostly flat except for a couple of ancient sand dunes here and there, so it's so strange to see the land just rise seemingly out of nowhere.
It felt so weird climbing to the top, knowing that the rock that I'm standing on is literally billions of years older than the bottom of the hill.
It also marks the end of the Swan Coastal Plain bioregion and the start of the Jarrah Forest bioregion.
I still haven't properly identified the skull in the 6th picture. When I found it, I thought it was a cat skull seeing as there are so many feral cats here. But upon closer inspection, I realise that it's most likely from a juvenile kangaroo.
