Keeping the ball rolling just cause I wanna, my girl Elyss:
What is your characterâs favorite type of food, or specific dishes that they love? Is there a reason behind their fondness?
She loves heavily spiced foods, partly because it reminds her of her motherâs cooking but also partly because sheâs lived a mostly hunter/ gatherer lifestyle for such a long time that Real Food with Imported Spices feels like a special treat. One of her favorite things in the world is very strong spiced tea with a lot of milk and sugar; good tea is her comfort food.
Does your character favor a certain color? Are many of their clothes this color?
Her favorite color is actually a deep blue, but she doesnât wear it very often-- undyed fabric is cheaper, and browns and greens blend in with her preferred surroundings a lot better.
What is your characterâs favorite instrument? Can they play it, or do they just enjoy listening?
She loves soft, melodic music-- favoring harp, flute, and lute. She can actually play flute, although she generally... doesnât, particularly now that sheâs travelling with others. She enjoys playing but doesnât like to draw attention to herself.
What is your characterâs favored weapon?
Longbow. The further away she keeps herself from harmâs way, the better. Besides, landing a really difficult shot always feels so good.
How does your character deal with having something on their mind? Do they show it, or get quiet? Do they talk about it? Are there any coping mechanisms they have that others may notice?
Mostly, she stays quiet, keeping her thoughts to herself. She always wants to take the time to really examine whatever it is and get her thoughts and feelings sorted out, so she can either make peace with them or identify how best to approach the situation if thereâs a problem that can be solved. The problem sheâs been running into lately is that this process takes a lot of time for her, and she A) keeps getting More Things to deal with and B) has almost no time to sort through any of it, so sheâs been really overwhelmed and not sure how to cope. Sheâs so unused to even having people to talk to that it wouldnât occur to her to reach out, for the most part; sheâs been trying to sweep her issues under the rug altogether until she has the time to focus on them, but since that never happens itâs proving to be a really unhealthy habit :I
If your character is angry or aggravated with another character / party member, how do they deal with it?
Oh man. Uh. That depends. Like, mostly she suppresses her feelings because she believes herself to be the odd man out in the group and is always afraid any overtly confrontational behavior from her will end up with her being tossed to the curb, but then sometimes she bursts and like... you know, punches a guy, so
What are your characterâs pet peeves?
People who talk over or interrupt others; people who talk too much or too quickly; being called Elise (itâs pronounced like Ellis Island)
How long does it take for your character to confront or deal with something that is on their mind / a problem? If contingent on the type of problem, what are they more capable of handling?
It depends. As I said, she likes to be able to set aside a lot of time to put her entire focus toward the problem, but if thatâs not possible she mostly pushes things aside for later, if âlaterâ ever comes
Is your character affectionate? Whom does your character choose to share affection with?
She has no idea how to show her affection. Sheâs got a heart full of love (for a very select few people) but is so socially illiterate that she isnât sure what to do about it. However, the more comfortable she is the more affectionate sheâll get.
If a fellow party member has a problem or concern, how (if at all) does your character deal with it? Do they try to help? Would it depend on the party member?
It would depend more on the problem than the party member? If itâs an actionable problem, she might cautiously offer some advice or her assistance; otherwise, sheâs happy to listen, but uncomfortable with Words of Support because sheâs bad at them. Emotionally, she has a tendency to take on her loved onesâ burdens, keeping them in mind and trying to help however she can going forward.
What are some habits that your character has? Do they have a morning or night time ritual?
Every night before bed and every morning when she gets up, she takes out her braid, combs her hair, and then braids it again. She always does weapon and armor checks and maintenance in the evenings.
Does your character have any unusual sleeping habits? How much do they sleep, where are they most comfortable? Do they snore? When given the option, are they an early or late riser?
She sleeps curled into the tiniest ball her body will do, with her knife, bow, and an arrow within immediate reach. Sheâs a quiet sleeper, for the most part. She tends to sleep lightly and to be an early riser.
How does your character behave when they are tired or exhausted?
Even worse than usual about concealing her emotions and tends to be more emotional in general
Does your character have any quirks that others might notice? Speech patterns, or things that they tend to do?
Her speech pattern is distinctively slow and halting as she stops between sentences and sometimes words to decide how to phrase her next thought. She runs her fingers through her hair when sheâs worried or thinking and she fidgets with her braid or her clothes when sheâs uncomfortable or nervous. She tends to start and end conversations very abruptly, without âhellosâ or âgoodbyesâ.Â
How does your characterâs constitution translate to their every day life? Do they tend to be prone to sniffles or are they generally sturdy? How quickly do they come back from major injury?
Sheâs got a good immune system and doesnât get sick very often, but when it hits her it usually hits pretty hard. Recovering from serious illness or injury takes her awhile without the aid of magic.
How does your character deal with being less than 100%?
Conceal, donât feel, lol. Try to give her body a chance to recover but without drawing attention to it, if she can help it.
How does your character deal with temperature? Do they run hot or cold?
She prefers cooler temperatures and gets uncomfortable and fatigued in very hot weather.
Does your character have a preference between indoors or outdoors? Where do they seem more or less comfortable?
Outdoors, hands down. Sheâs very at ease in the wilderness, and if she has to stay inside for too long she starts to feel restless and trapped.
Does your character have various outfits for different situations, or do they tend to wear just one? Do they have any interchangeable pieces, or any odd clothing habits/quirks?
She wears the exact same thing every day. She keeps enough clothing to always have something relatively clean to wear, but itâs in the form of identical tunics and pants. She swims in her underwear and an old shirt she cut the sleeves off of and thatâs the only âdifferent outfitâ she uses.
How does your character feel about their belongings? What condition are their belongings in? Do they have more belongings, or the bare minimum? Are they possessive or protective of their things?
She likes to keep anything useful that can be carried, not wanting to waste anything. Sheâs also surprisingly sentimental and is very attached to a few of her belongings; her knife, an old rabbit skin, a handful of arrowheads, some letters, a drawing of her with her siblings
What are your characterâs hobbies? What do they do during their off-time? Do they have anything that aids them in these hobbies or skills?
She really enjoys fixing and making things and working with her hands, the major thing being sewing, which relaxes her. If she doesnât have a sewing project during downtimes, sheâll make and repair arrows or sharpen her blades, things like that
What does your character bring to the party? Are they a skilled fighter? Are they good with intelligent pursuits or charismatic encounters?
Sheâs an A+ scout and tracker with a keen eye for avoiding danger, and sheâs also really good in battle with a lot of damage output.
How do they help set up camp?
Finding a good site, foraging/ hunting and prepping food and collecting or conjuring clean water
What are some other ways your party is obviously benefited by your characterâs presence?
You know, I feel like at least two party members have specifically made some small effort to be a little less reckless with their own lives and their choices because Elyss cares and worries so goddamn much, so weâll go with that?
What is your characterâs relationship with money? What are their spending habits? How would your party perceive their relationship with money / accepting pay from others?
Sheâs practical and frugal. Sheâs spent most of her life being entirely self sufficient, so she knows how to be careful with money as well as how to live without it. Both her parents are businesspeople, so sheâs comfortable and confident with keeping track of the party funds as well.
What is your characterâs overall disposition when surrounded only by the party? Are they different around just one or two party members? If so, are these specific members, or rather that your character is more comfortable opening up around fewer people?
Thereâs a whole lot of sliding scale of comfort here and itâs more to do with her relationships than to number of people. Sheâs definitely more comfortable with the party than with the world at large; within the party as a group sheâs more comfortable without Eldryn, who is new and untrusted, and then on a personal level sheâs the most comfortable with Jermaine, followed by Taldian, followed by Tobias (barring that four day window where she was SUPER uncomfy around him because she punched Belial out of the party, ofc)
The more comfortable she is, the more relaxed her disposition is; she speaks and smiles a little more freely, and is more likely to voice an opinion. She stays stoic and almost silent among strangers, usually.
Does your character walk at a faster or slower pace? Does it depend on the setting or situation?
She prefers a slower pace-- either careful or relaxed, depending on circumstances. Hurrying makes her uncomfortable and nervous.
How does your character pass travel time?
She really likes to listen to the others talking among each other. She also looks around constantly, taking everything in and just thinking
Is there anything else that your party members might notice about your character?
She always leaves her hair loose when itâs wet. If itâs raining, you might catch her humming to herself. Her eyes and skin tone subtly shift based on her physical and emotional state. Her skin is noticeably cool to the touch. She gets nervous when someone locks a room sheâs in; she was nervous when she used manacles to take an orc prisoner and when she gave away all of the entanglement potions; she was nervous about the beads of force even being at the same table as her. In the last couple of days, when sheâs lost in thought her eyes tend to drift to the west. Any time anyone expresses that sheâs valued or that they consider her a friend she looks genuinely taken aback. With a couple of circumstance-specific exceptions, she never breaks a hug first.
