If there was ever a book that I need to gush about with someone in a high-pitched, girly voice... THIS WOULD BE IT!
I actually found this book on a shelf at my local Walmart and the cover page called to me with a deep, baritone cadence that rattled me down to my nervous system. Whoever designed the cover of this book was a downright genius! The title, the cover, the quote at the top of the page… all of it together was a potent combination that had me ready to buy the book without even venturing to the back cover for information. Once I read the back though, that book was going home with no one other than me!
I have loved Greek mythology since I was an early reader, and it did not take me long to discover the story of Persephone. She has always been my ultimate favorite and girl crush. A woman who was given a taste of what freedom could be and she became Queen of the Underworld and ruled next to a man who coveted the very air she breathed. Talk about life goals, right?!
This book is a modernized retelling of the myth behind Persephone and Hades. Persephone is perceived as a young socialite who is being used to further her mother’s, Demeter, position within the hierarchy of Olympus. To escape a future that included her imminent demise, Persephone flees to what is known as the Lower City and makes a literal deal with the Devil. This is where the story really gains momentum and I do NOT want to spoil it anymore!
This book is classified as Dark Romance and there is not a more fitting description that could be tied to it. *Pun intended... seriously... Go read this book ASAP. *
From this obsessed reader, this book has a 5 out of 5 rating! It is definitely one of those books that I can delve into again and again ten times over!
