Day 6 - Favorite Quote
TeaTime ☕️
I’d like to shoutout to my homegirl Android as she pulled one of the classiest moves in Season 1 and went to apologize to Creepy Droid in that one episode when we knew shit was going down. If none of y’all knows what I’m on about, here’s a breakdown:
As the scene opens, my precious pistachio approaches and informs Doll Droid what she’s about
It’s all goin’ good. Good goin’. Nothin’ wrong. You on the right track.
She owns up to her shit and keeps moving forward. Don’t want a stone unturned and all that classy stuff. Now, the other Droid sorta lookin’ at her like she’s got a few sensors loose:
I mean, look at her. Just sort of….not there. While my BEAUTIFUL PEANUT pours out her chipboard of a heart. She even extends a metaphoric hand of understanding, even though this housewifeDroid™ is clearly just not on the same level as the BEE:
AND THEN SHE DROPS THIS ABSOLUTE FUCKIN BOMB:
JUST
she’s perfect, bye.💅🏽
And I KNOW I ain’t the only one just sittin’ on the side like

Day 5 - Funniest Moment
That time Android gave the DonutHole™ a verbal smackdown.
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ all of the tea was drunk that day. You could say the donut was dunked----in some scalding tea.😎
My last few #darkmatterweek posts are coming late, like the Raza, but they arrive none the less.
Day 4 - Favorite Episode
Season 1 Pilot
For me, the Pilot is the episode that determines whether a show is worth the time to watch. And Dark Matter sold itself. I was taken in, hook, line, and sinker by the stasis reveal scene especially. In film (and storytelling in general) mist and fog is used metaphorically. Typically signifying that the events are not taking place in the real world, I think for this show it also layered the mystery of these characters pasts. Perfectly condensing the major obstacle all of these characters would face into a single shot using one tool: the pressurized carbon and oxygen leaving their stasis pods upon waking up. This is also the first time we meet everyone, and the time we are given a choice. We can either choose to make a split judgement on all of these characters, or withhold it until further information is given us. I think it’s safe to say most of us decided who we liked or not in the first 10 minutes. The writers are giving us plenty to ruminate on, however, as we regret our choices with every episode revealing more ugly secrets or unexpected tender sides to all of our favorites (no matter who they may be).

Dark Matter Week Day 4: Favorite Episode: 107
Continuing the episode by episode coverage, here is episode 7. This coincides perfectly with Day 4 of Dark Matter Week: Favorite Episode
Without a doubt, this was a favorite for me. The crew finally gets to see what’s in the vault.
Three is increasingly fretting about the woman they find in the stasis pod, at first wanting them to thaw her out, and then wanting to put her back when he finds out she’s sick. He doesn’t know his connection to her at this time, but something in him knows. Anthony Lemke is just fantastic in this episode, so completely authentic. Three watches Sarah with such intensity, like he knows somehow that she’s important even if he doesn’t remember. When Sarah (played by the amazing Natalie Brown) wakes up and hugs him, he looks so shocked.
One of my favorite moments is when Three rushes into his room to clean everything off his bed to give her somewhere to sit. He’s looking awkward, flustered, like he wants to find a way to make her at home but doesn’t know how to. She tells him that she knows his life, and that it’s okay. She understands.
Zoie Palmer as the Android is, without a doubt, another standout performer in this episode. The Android goes through jealousy as she tries to keep up with Wendy, the other android the crew found in the vault. From constantly pointing out her accomplishments to trying on a ridiculous and awesome array of accents, the Android shows increasingly more that she is more than a “robot”. Wendy’s presence brings out a streak in the Android we don’t otherwise see, and Ruby Rose’s performance is a lot of fun. A brief moment of appreciation for such comments as “dunking the cosmic donut.”
The flashback scenes with Sarah and Three/Marcus are perfect. There’s a clear conflict for him - he feels that he’s not the man who stays. He learns, by being with her, that he can be not just the man that stays, but the man that is worthy of a woman like Sarah. He works on the land at her home, and he stays with her when she’s sick.
In the present, when she collapses, he cradles her in his arms and rushes her back to her stasis pod to put her back. Before she goes to sleep, she assures him:
We’ll make new memories.
She doesn’t even question it, she is confident in Three, in what they mean to each other. Sarah dying is heartbreaking; in fact, one of the single most heartbreaking moments in this series. When he leans down over the pod to say a silent goodbye, his hand on the glass…
After Sarah’s death, One apologizes, taking some blame for what happened. Three is blunt - he tells One flat out that it’s not his fault. I appreciated this because it really showed something important about each one of them. One has a good deal of compassion, and for Three, that he’s not interested in pointless grudges.
I loved this episode so much.
Favorite Episode: S1E7 For @teamraza’s Dark Matter Appreciation Week. Between android Wendy (Ruby Rose) kicking Three's ass, the mentions of dunking the cosmic donut, and the backstory between Three and Sarah--what's not to like about this episode? Other than the death of the character of Sarah, portrayed excellently by Natalie Brown (who I was very sorry to see take such a quick exit from the series), I loved pretty much everything about this episode. We get a little bit of everything, and it all fits together so well. This was an easy choice of a favorite for me.
Dark Matter Week Day 3: Favorite Relationship/Friendship: Five and Six
Five is in a unique position in a number of ways: she’s the youngest, she’s not a convicted criminal, she’s a stowaway, and she has everyone’s memories locked away in her head.
In episode 3, when Five finds the dead boy, it’s Six who seems to understand.
When she’s trapped inside of her own mind and they can’t wake her up, it’s Six that goes in. He doesn’t know what he’s going to find, whose memories they’ll be in, but he doesn’t flinch. He talks her through why she needs to leave, and hugs her. He gets through to her.
At one point, Five asks Six to teach her to fight, he says no. It’s not because he doesn’t think she’s capable, but I felt it was out of a desire to protect her, to keep her out of the line of danger. He gets irritated with her and tells her she’s not part of the crew, which was horribly hurtful to her, but the most important thing happened: he apologized. Friends make mistakes, but what makes a friendship strong is when you can admit when it’s happened, and make it better.
When Five becomes afraid of Two in episode 13, it’s Six she asks to stay with her. She trusts him to protect her.
Their friendship is one of my favorites, and it’s one I am scared for in season 2. I want to know how it plays out, but at the same time, Six’s actions are bound to break Five’s heart. Their friendship is precious to me.
