Darkgondolier's Rank Sorting
So I noticed that you did a rank-sorting analysis for someone, and I thought that seemed like a much better idea than submitting what I was originally going to (an anti-sort) because there are several questions where I'm pretty indecisive and some where I don't have a clear last choice. I'll try to note these, in case it helps. I feel like I'm a bit of a hybrid, but I don't know if this is really reflected in my answers. I'd really appreciate it if you could go through my rankings- I'm just fascinated by the sorting process. Thank you so much!
Question 1:
Which of the following would you most hate people to call you?
Selfish > Cowardly > Ignorant > Ordinary
Puff, then Gryff; least Slyth
After you have died, what would you most like people to do when they hear your name?
Miss you, but smile > Think with admiration of your achievements > Ask for more stories about your adventures > I don't care what people think about me after I'm deadÂ
Puff, then Claw; least Slyth
Would you rather invent a potion that would guarantee you-
Love (only as long as it isn't a love potion) > Wisdom > Glory > Power
Puff, then Claw; least Slyth (although power is notably least popular for everyone, followed by glory; this was not the best question.)Â
How would you like to be known to history?
The Good > The Bold > The Wise > The Great
Puff, then Gryff; least Slyth
I think I am definitely noticing a trend here. :) Always most-Puff, least-Slyth for Q1.Â
(All Q1s fairly straightforward for me, though I don't feel as strongly about "ordinary" as a last-choice answer as I do about the other Q1s.)
Question 2:
Enchanted garden. What do you examine first?
Bubbling pool > talking toadstools > silver-leafed tree > statue
Slyth first, Puff second; Gryff last
What kind of instrument most pleases your ear?
Violin > piano > trumpet > drums
Slyth first, Claw second; Gryff last - however, violin and piano are consistently most popular.
Which of the four boxes do you try to open?
Pewter box > black box > tortoiseshell box > golden casket
Gryff, then Slyth; least Claw (although again, the casket with the obvious downside is the least-often-chosen, I think.)
Four goblets are placed before you. Which do you drink?
Silvery liquid > rich purple drink > golden liquid > mysterious black liquid
Claw, then Puff; least Slyth (and this is the least-popular in general because of the whole FUMES AND VISIONS.)Â
What would the Flutterby bush smell of if it lured you?
Log fire > home > fresh parchment > the sea
Gryff, then Puff; Slyth last.
So despite having a couple Slyth answers here, you tend to put Slyth last in other places.
(All Q2s pretty straightforward for me.)
Question 3:
In what order would you save things from the troll?
Cure/book/records (last place would be Records/book/cure)
Gryff with Claw secondary (anti-version is Slytherpuff, and probably more Slyth than Puff.)Â
Which would you rather be?
Trusted > liked > praised > envied > imitated > feared
Huffledor (then Huffledor again, then Gryffinclaw with possible Slyth; however, this is about on par for this question.) Slytherfeared is the anti-answer - but again, this is the question where imitated and feared are highly disfavored anyway.
Which of the following do you find most difficult to deal with?
Being ignored > boredom > cold > loneliness > hunger
Slytherclaw primary; Huffleclaw last. (Hufflepuff answers are definitely on the bottom for you, Slytherin on top.)Â
(This last Q3 is one of the hardest for me. I change my mind nearly every time because no answer sticks out as most difficult or least difficult to deal with.)
Question 4:
What are you most looking forward to learning?
Secrets of the castle > everything > transfiguration > flying > apparition and disapparition > all about magical creatures > hexes and jinxes
Gryffinclaw on top (and all of these first couple answers are Claw in nature, a Slytherclaw and a Gryffinclaw again - and Slytherin's hexes are dead last.)Â
If you could have any power, what would you choose?
Change appearance > invisibility > speak to animals > superhuman strength > change the past > read minds
Slytherclaw in first; Slytherclaw in last. Fascinating. This is one question where your rank orders really don't go with the weightings - you go from Slytherclaw to Gryffinclaw to Hufflepuff x2 to Slytherdor to Slytherclaw. If you take the first two as a pair, the Ravenclaw is what stands out.
(Note: after "change appearance" and "invisibility," which are almost evenly tied for first place, I find all the others about equally undesirable.)
Which of the following would you most like to study?
Werewolves > vampires > ghosts > centaurs > goblins > merpeople > trolls
Gryff first; Puff last. What's odd here is that merpeople is so low - that's a Slytherin answer and one of the most popular overall.
Question 5:
A housemate has cheated. What do you do?
Tell Flitwick to ask classmate > lie and say you don't know > tell Flitwick the truth after the test > Tell Flitwick before the test
Gryff first; either Slyth or Puff last. (I'm wavering at this point - I still think that Hufflepuffs should tell Flitwick before, but think the quiz itself might lean Slytherin on this one.) Interesting that Ravenclaw is prioritized relatively low - usually there's a distinct divide in popularity between the Gryff/Claw answers and the Slyth/Puff. Â
You and two friends have to cross a bridge guarded by a troll. What do you do?
Attempt to confuse the troll > all three fight > volunteer to fight > draw lots
Exactly my order! Ravenclaw first, then Slyth; Hufflepuff last (although that's not unexpected.)
Which road tempts you most?
Woods path > cobblestone street > lantern-lit alley > sunny, grassy lane
Gryff, Claw, Slyth, Puff in that order.
What nightmare would frighten you most?
Eye at keyhole > friends and family don't remember you > standing up high > silly voice
Again, my ordering! (But also the general ordering of popularity. Gryff, then Puff, then Claw, then Slyth. But this is a horrible question in terms of "everyone gives the same answers!")Â
Late at night you hear a peculiar cry. What do you do?
Draw wand and seek source > proceed with caution > withdraw > stand ground
Gryff, then Puff; Slyth is last, although again this is 'Slyth has a bad answer' type last.
A Muggle confronts you and claims to know you are a witch or wizard. What do you do?
Ask why > agree and walk away > agree and offer a jinx > worried about mental health
Claw, then Gryff; Puff last. The Puff-last option is rather unusual.
Question 6:
Dusk > dawn Slytherpuff over Gryffinclaw
Moon > stars Slytherclaw over Huffledor (I do think stars is Huffledor now)
Forest > river Gryffinclaw over Slytherpuff
So no real pattern there - 2 Slythclaw weights preferred
Question 7:
Black > white Gryff/Slyth prevails
Heads > tails Puff/Claw prevails
Left > Right (I have no strong opinions on this one. I am slightly undecided.)Â Slyth/Claw prevails, but only marginally, basically also making this question a wash.
This is interesting - you tend to really love or hate the Slytherin answers, and you put a lot of popular Slyth answers at the bottom (merpeople, read minds, sea.) You also have some Hufflepuff answers placed last (see: how you ranked the "being ignored/boredom/hunger/cold/loneliness" question - but then again, many of them are your second-place answers early on.) There are some really fascinating/uncommon individual rankings, but this also tends to reinforce the "Slytherin and Hufflepuff really did get stuck with some undesirable answers" trend.
Again, thank you so much!
