Now that I’m older, I fully understand that weekends aren’t just for partying anymore, if any partying at all. Instead, it’s nice to take some introspective journeys with beautiful, more understated music before a new hectic week begins again. My friend recently sent me an article about a popular Dutch concept named “niksen”, in which people do “nothing” to battle the constant chaos and stress of life. It’s a theory of well being, and it could involve anything from people watching in a coffee shop, or listening to your favorite music at home. I took a little much needed “niksen” myself earlier today when I came across the gorgeous folk rock of Lily Kershaw, a singer songwriter from Los Angeles. Now & Then is a gently aching sigh of a tenderly nostalgic strummer that stopped the ticking hands of time for me. Now & Then is the first new song from Lily Kershaw’s upcoming sophomore full-length out later this year, and it’s reminiscent of songs off her acclaimed debut album Midnight In The Garden. Kershaw weaves tapestries of willowy sound with her fingerpicking and her tales of relatable truths on the intimate, honest beauty. After my idyllic moment with Now & Then, I’m fully convinced I need to get my hands on Lily Kershaw’s new album, whose name and release date are to be announced. She’ll be joining Joshua Radin and The Weepies on their co-headline fall tour presented by SiriusXM’s Coffee House. Bay Area stops include the Susan & Phil Hammer Theatre Center in San Jose on October 11th and The Fillmore in San Franicsco on October 13th.
