The family was gone. Several days passed and no one checked on them. No one except the furtive shadow of a human who scurried behind the porch light at dawn and dusk. For seven days and seven nights, the tiny witch tried to save the family, but I was too strong. Their weak spirits didnât sway as he called into the void for them. The family was gone, but on the seventh night he came for me. He was funny, with his little charms and slights. Now, the witch is gone. I await the coven bound to search for him. #amwritinghorrorfantasy #amwriting #soul #eating #darkentity #witch #coven (at Upper North Philadelphia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B12sKEYAsXe/?igshid=1r2pkw71d37bd

Han crawled over to Shera, as she sat up slowly, painfully in the bed.  âShera, are you okay?â  She reached out to him.
Peter pushed himself from the wall and landed softly on his feet.  The feral laugh chilled them to the bone.  âFool!â  Peter flung his arm straight out to the side, and Han flew back into the wall, unable to move.  âIf I canât inhabit him, then I will torture him, and make him watch, as I take you over and over and over again.  Then, I will kill you both, and leave this sniveling coward to face what he has done to his friends.âÂ
âNo, donât, please!â Shera felt as if her chest would explode from fear, not for herself, but for Han and Peter.
âTell me, witch, can you feel his pain?â  At that, Peter balled up his fist, and Han screamed in agony.
Shera felt his pain and his fear.  She screamed, and something inside her snapped.  A blue-white light exploded from her chest and enveloped the room. This time she could see it and feel it.  The force of the blast knocked Peter backward, and Han fell from the wall.
This felt very different from what she had experienced at the Milner house.  The light began to swirl and pull back toward her body, and with it, she felt her consciousness being pulled deeper and deeper within herself.  She began to fight it until a gentle female voice filled her being, Donât fight me.  You will be in a dreamlike state, but you will still be able to hear and see what goes on.  Shera, if you want him to live, you must give me complete control.
    Who are you?
I am the one the demon spoke of.  You must trust me.
Shera felt that she was telling the truth, and knew that she had very little choice if she wanted to save Han.  She had seen this womanâs power before and knew that she could fight the dark entity.  She gave in and sank into unconsciousness.
As the swirling light continued to withdraw back into her, Sheraâs body lifted from the bed to hover above it.  She looked as if she were standing on some invisible precipice.  Bright blue wings of flame sprouted forth from her back destroying her shirt.  Her eyes glossed over and became completely white.  She looked down at Peter with a look of profound sadness, and spoke gently, âAbaddon, release the human.â
Han couldnât move or speak, as he watched Sheraâs transformation.  He sat stunned on the floor, as she raised her hand at what used to be Peter.  Peterâs body slowly lifted from the floor, and he let out an angry snarl.  âYou dare to command me, Muriel?  Have you forgotten who imprisoned you within that human body?â
âI have not forgotten, my love.  I remember all the wrong you did to me, and my anger burns deeply.  You will release that human, or I will drag you out and destroy you.â
Peter laughed, âYou could not destroy me, then, you will not destroy me, now.â
âYou underestimate my anger.â  Shera lifted her free hand parallel to the other and began to pull back slowly.  A dual scream issued forth from Peter.
âFool, you will kill this mud-monkey you are trying to save.â
âThat man would rather die than have that evil within himâthe same evil that took his sister.â
Peter snarled at Shera.  âI will kill you for this, Muriel!â
âYou could not kill me, then, you will not kill me, now.â
Peterâs body lurched, and he screamed, then fell unconscious.  She lowered her arms, and with them, Peter floated down to the floor. Shera looked at Han, and said, âHe has retreated for now.  Your friend will be fine, and I will return to my sleep until I am needed again.â  She closed her eyes, and the blue-white light began to dissipate.  Sheraâs body drifted down to the bed.
âI guess itâs a good thing it was me that sat down next to you, and not a mugger.â  He gave her a smirk, then replied, âI thought you agreed not to run away.â
She sighed and went back to her drawing.  âIâm not running away.  Iâm finding my own ride to Pennsylvania.  After what happened at the restaurant, though, Iâm not sure I wanna go, anymore.â
Han winced at the statement and the loneliness in her voice.  âShera, Collin can be an idiot sometimes.  Heâs not always like this.  Iâve done a lot of things over the years that made it hard for him.  I get why heâs being an ass.â
She looked at him. âWhat does all of this have to do with me?â  Han opened his mouth, and she interrupted, âAnd donât tell me it doesnât!â
âIt really doesnât, Shera. He doesnât want me spending time with any female co-workers if it doesnât pertain to work.  Itâs my own fault, and it has absolutely nothing to do with you.â
âAccept that weâve been spending time together.â
âA lot of time together, and heâs concerned.  Someone told him you stayed with me last night.â
    âBut that wasâŚâ
âI told him that, but he doesnât believe me.  To make matters worse, Liam saw us outside the restaurant.  I donât know what he saw or what he told Collin, but it hasnât helped the situation.â
    âIâll talk to him, then.â
Han shook his head. âHe wonât believe you, either. Heâll just think youâre trying to protect me.â
She looked at the floor. âI never shouldâve agreed to come. All of this was a mistake.â  She felt the surge of pain from Han, as she finished the statement.  She turned to him and grabbed his hand.  âHan, I didnât meanâŚâ
âI know what you meant.â He squeezed her hand.  âItâs okay.  I had a similar thought after I found out you ran off.  Maybe, if I had stayed away, you would still be with the group, and not running off to a bus station.â
âNo, Han, I didnât leave because of you.  Iâm independent, and I donât like people telling me what to do.  Iâve been that way for a long time.  Also, Iâm not comfortable with people knowing about my nightmares, much less witnessing them.  Now, everyone knows.  The last thing I wanted, was to be trapped in that van, with a bunch of people, who canât handle it.â
He arched his brow, âHow do you know they couldnât handle it?â
She looked at him obstinately, âHan, Iâve known two people in my life, who knew what to do, when I get that way.â  She looked away, embarrassed.
âAnd your answer was to get on a bus full of strangers?â
âI donât sleep on public transportation, Han.  I canât handle so much emotion and intent.  It makes me uncomfortable.  Plus, Iâd hate to stab a man in the eye with a pencil for shoving his hand up my shirt, when I was trying to sleep.â  She gave him a smirk, and held up the pencil, âTheyâre hard to find and expensive.â
He laughed.  âWell, are you going to hop on a bus full of strangers, or will you ride home with me?â
    âWhat about Collin?â
âDo you care what he thinks?â
    âNo, butâŚâ
âNeither do I.  Itâs my car, and if you want to ride in it, you can.â Â
She smiled at him, and replied, âOkay, but can I finish my drawing?â
He grinned.  âHow about a compromise.â  He pulled out his phone and snapped a photo.  âWill that do?â
âI usually prefer real-life models, but⌠that camera is amazing.â
âI buy the phone for the camera.  So, do we get off at the next stop?â
Jackie nearly tripped over the threshold, rushing into the room.  She shut the door and checked to make sure Ginger was in the bathroom, before plopping down on the bed to wait for her to come out.  It wasnât long, before she came bouncing out of the bathroom, wearing only her towel. âAre you going to talk to me now, or are you still pissed off at me?â
Ginger walked over to her bed, where she had her clothes laid out neatly. âYou can save your lectures for someone else.  I think itâs more than a little hypocritical if you ask me, and Iâm not in the mood to listen to it.â  She dropped her towel and started to get dressed.
âYouâre my best friend, Ginger.  Iâm worried about you.â
âFriends⌠I remember us being a lot more than that, Jackie.  But thatâs when it suited you, right?  You never minded my promiscuity, then.  The fact that you want to judge me now, is a blatant insult.â She finished putting on her clothes, then walked over to the sink.  She started brushing her teeth, as Jackie walked up, and sat down on the counter beside her.
âI never meant it that way, you know that!  The way youâve been acting since we left home, isnât normal behavior for you, Ginger.  You propositioned Collin, for Godâs sake, and in public!  Now, you want to run off by yourself to a club and pick up the first guy who talks to you.  How could I not be concerned?â
She finished brushing her teeth, then turned to Jackie, âWhatâs the problem? You act like this is the first time. I do it all the time.â
âNo, you donât!  You always go out with one or more of us, and when you take those men home with you, Hawk is always there, in case you need him.  What exactly was your plan for tonight?  To go home with a stranger?â
âMaybe. You know what, I donât have time for this.â  She picked up her brush and the blow-dryer and started fixing her hair.
Jackie waited patiently for Ginger to finish with the blow-dryer.  As she turned off the noisy machine, Jackie begged, âPlease, Ginger!  Think about what youâre doing.  I only want you to be safe.â
Ginger pulled out her make-up and went to work on her face.  âI am thinking about it, and Iâm gonna enjoy banging some guy in the back seat of his car.â
âFine, I get it!  You donât care, and Iâm wasting my time.  Will you at least tell me where youâre going, so Iâll know where to start looking if you donât come back?â
Ginger whipped her head around to give a smart retort, but stopped short, when she saw Jackieâs face.  She was shaking, her eyes glued to her knees, and tears ran freely down her cheeks. Ginger sighed softly, and whispered, âIâm sorry, Jackie.  I didnât mean it.â  She hugged her friend.  âI know you care about me.  Iâm just being a bitch.  Iâm fine, really.  I just need some time away, thatâs all.â
Jackie gently pushed her away and slid off the counter.  âAre you going to tell me where youâre going, or not?â  She never looked up at her friend, as she waited for her answer.
Ginger sighed in resignation, âThe Boiler Room.  Itâs in Gainesville.â
Jackie pushed passed her, and whispered, âThank you,â then walked into the bathroom, and slammed the door.
Ginger tried to open it, but it was locked.  âCome on, Jackie, donât be like this!â
âHow do you want me to be?  Youâre being reckless and expecting me to just let you.â
âFine, be that way!  Youâre my friend, not my mother.  Iâll see you tomorrow.â  Ginger grabbed her makeup bag and her purse slipped on her heels and left.
