This iris is a very appropriate bloom to post for Halloween, don’t you think? Unfortunately, this photo was not taken in my garden, but I got two puny iris rhizomes for free at a local nursery recently because they were the tiniest left over rhizomes that nobody wanted anymore. I hadn’t much hope but still potted them up in a container to have more control over their water and light needs. And low and behold they both started to grow actively and look pretty decent by now. I want to plant them into the ground before winter arrives so that they really can get established until next year’s spring. The exciting thing about them is that one of them, called ‚Raven Girl’, is supposed to be a truly black iris. So when all goes well, next year I can post my own proper black Halloween iris photo! Wouldn’t that be cool?
