Gave Mega Man 5 a shot again.
To see if it's as lame as I thought it was. It’s always been that least noteworthy one, the blandest. And always viewed as such.
The level design is solid. Barring those stupid things that pop out of pits to knock you down with them, and a few others. It's only the worst by default discounting & Bass.
Going in blind on the pattern, because I have trouble remembering any Mega Man pattern let alone 5's specifically. I remember Gravity Man being weak to Star Man. And Wily Capsule to beat but that's all. Later I remembered the Wily Machine was weak against the super arrow for some reason.
It's partly why I constantly dismissed the game is because my last experience was on the Anniversary Collection on Gamecube. You know. Both laggy and B is jump and A is shoot... And beat the whole thing... Ugh.
Got a nice amount of use out of the weapons, this time around, even Power Stone, though not an ideal amount. This is no 9.
This was my order: Napalm Man Stone Man Charge Man Wave Man Gyro Man Crystal Man Star Man Did Crystal Man again oops Star Man again also oops Gravity Man when I meant to take Stone Man, oops Stone Man again, that's where I missed the stupidly hidden letter. The Castles
I think I got really lucky with the order with the first 4. Good thing I didn't pick my fave Gravity Man first. He's hard.
The game (and by extension me) didn't feel alive until Dark Man though (that's the opposite of 3 now I think about it). This music rocks! Thanks, Yoko Shimumora! Other than that and the Wily Castle theme there's nothing to get pumped up about.
I blame Screwattack.com for shaping my opinion on that one.
Still, Mega Man 5 is just okay, but it does make me laugh that Classic Mega Man at it's worst (Excluding & Bass) is still quality, and better than most games, it's just uninteresting. Not a great conversation piece.
I also happened to fight the Dark Man 4 spirit in Spirit Board. It's fun to see how they interpreted the Dark Men.
I do like the Dark Men, even if they’re easily forgotten.
Also, you might contest my opinion on & Bass, saying it's not that bad well I collected all 100 CDs except THAT one in Ground Man on GBA. And not for lack of trying. I'm well within my right not to like it. (I love its Robot Masters.)
Also, I don't need to justify my opinions.
Also, I don't need to gratuitously blurt them out. MM2 sucks, MM4 is more representative of what the Classic series is like. MM1 is high ranking. X4 is good.

His eyes and skin were as dark as his intentions, but I could no sooner resist him than a moth to flame. No matter how often I ran from him we always found each other, and every time he seemed darker. I knew him like myself, and that darkness was despair more than anything else. I yearned to free his soul, or to give him some of my light. I longed to see his smile once more in real life, not just in my dreams of yesterday.
