Nino rubbed his temples, staring at the skyward-facing ‘18′ and not at his wayward friend, who was leaning forward eagerly in a way that made Nino’s eyes want to go ungentlemanly places.
“The barmaid is seduced,” he said dryly, not for the first time since this campaign started, and pointedly reshuffled the papers in front of him. “She falls into your arms, sighing, ‘Oh, Adventurer...’”
Alya beamed brighter, looking directly at him as she said, “Oh miss, you have the prettiest brown eyes, just like the sweetest honey—”
“Her eyes are blue,” Nino corrected, stomach curling and face flushing. “Not brown.”
“Yours aren’t,” Alya said with a sly wink, and Nino buried his face in his hands, ignoring the muffled laughter from the rest of his team.

[1/2] Hi there. I wanna preface this by saying that this isn't hate, because I honestly want to know how you can ship Chloe and Marinette. I personally can't see the appeal, mostly because canonically, Chloe is downright EVIL to Marinette on several occasions, and it is clear that there isn't any (apparent) love between them on Marinette's side either. Would you be okay explaining what makes the ship appealing? (I may be partially
[2/2] biased because I’ve known people like Chloe IRL, and part of me hopes they never find happiness) thank you very much for any answer you can give.
okie dokie so i tried to explain this succinctly but it wound up just a touch long, so i’m gonna leave this under a cut for you and everyone else :)
i wanna first say that, for me, chlonette necessitates chloe pulling out of her cruel behavior to some degree. bc you’re right. a ship btw a nice girl and a girl who treats her cruelly isn’t healthy, and i don’t like to imagine a scenario where they’re in a relationship and chloe is still cruel to her. personally, i think that goes for all chloe ships. so! that being said.....
chloe really really likes ladybug. here’s what’s fascinating about chloe. as much as she torments and makes fun of her classmates....her idol is a superhero. chloe dresses up as ladybug and pretends to be ladybug because she wants to be ladybug. in addition to that, during “antibug” when ladybug apologized to chloe for being rude to her, chloe actually accepts her apology which is something i don’t think she’d do for her other classmates. so she respects ladybug enough to accept her apologies. and bc she wants to be ladybug, i feel as though she must at least admire everything ladybug stands for: humility, justice, selflessness, doing the right thing no matter what. it’s safe to say that these are all qualities in a person that chloe deeply admires and wishes to emulate herself. ladybug makes chloe want to be a better person: the type of person who accepts apologies and admires superheroes.
chloe really really doesn’t like marinette. now this is where it gets funny. marinette and ladybug are the same person. which means that all of ladybug’s qualities are all of marinette’s qualities. marinette is humble, believes in justice, is selfless, and believes in doing the right thing. but the biggest difference is that while the bad guys for ladybug are akumas, the bad guy for marinette is chloe. marinette has all of the same qualities as ladybug, but because marinette directs those qualities towards calling chloe out on her shit, chloe hates her for it.
now keep in mind, chloe is a very entitled girl who gets whatever she asks for and has probably been told all her life that she’s better than everyone else because she is who she is. i feel like that’s a lot due to upbringing, although i don’t mean to fully strip her of blame. but this does help explain why chloe gets so mad when marinette thwarts her attempts to lord over others and appear superior
i think it makes chloe realize that she’s not as perfect as she thinks, which is frustrating for her. she isn’t the class rep. she isn’t the one leading the class during an akuma attack. she isn’t the one winning designing contests. marinette is.
chloe’s redemption is dependent on her ability to sympathize with others. chloe needs to learn to get out of her own head and consider other people, plain and simple. now how this could happen is a conversation best had for another post, but in the context of chlonette i think it has huge implications for how their relationship could develop. now this could happen many ways, but one way that i think it really meaningful is chloe seeing ladybug in marinette
think about it: if chloe was legitimately being victimized (due to no fault of her own), marinette would swoop into help, because that’s the right thing to do. something like that would shatter chloe’s perceptions of marinette. bc at that moment, marinette doesn’t want to see chloe fail. marinette wants to help chloe bc that’s the right thing to do. that’s something ladybug would do. and i think that’s something that would give chloe pause.
if chloe happened to find something that marinette and her have in common, that would be a wonderful way to humanize marinette and show chloe that they’re not all that different and not all that opposed to one another. these are both ways for chloe to look at marinette and realize “she’s not just a girl set to embarass me and steal the attention. she’s a regular girl who likes things i like and is willing to do the right thing despite her feelings about me”
bottom line: if chloe can manage to appreciate the qualities in marinette that mirror ladybug’s, the animosity between them would lessen considerably. and that’s why the ship is interesting to me. obviously chloe would have to make up for her actions and learn to be a better person, but at the end of the day, marinette literally is the very thing that chloe wholeheartedly admires. what makes it hard for her to see that is her own selfishness. if chloe can get past that, i feel like marinette would quickly become a person that chloe can deeply admire. and i think that marinette would also admire chloe for being able to see past this selfishness and grow into a better person. a lot of the appeal of chlonette depends on chloe’s development, and if you’re open to that, the ship might pleasantly surprise you
sorry that was so long but i hope that made sense :)
What was the origins part of this au like? (Besides them getting their kwami) was there an umbrella scene? What's the twins' relationships with Nino/Alya(and Chloe for that matter)
@oceanspray5 and I have been discussing this.
Marinette, after the initial akuma screw up, would definitely have just given the earrings to Marin and never dealt with the responsibility of being a Miraculous holder if she had been given the chance. So to make that not an option, we figured the best way for Marinette to get her resolve to be Ladybug would be for Marin to get hurt alongside Alya. Adrien handles all the Chat things this episode too, since he was the first one to put on the ring and suit up.
It’s not about Origins but I’ll mention it here... The Pixelator episode seems to follow Origins canonically so I thought it would be the perfect situation for both Marin and Adrienne to shine in their siblings place. Marinette would get trapped in a photograph which would force Marin to have to save the day as Lady Beetle. Likewise, Adrien never gets out of the photo with Chloe so Adrienne has to help the whole time instead. I dunno how they had the Kwami/Miraculous on them... maybe Plagg was begging Adrienne for food at the time and she had the ring that day and Marin got a hold of Marinette’s bag with Tikki and the earrings in it after Marinette had been put in the photo. Anyway, that is how this pair meet and team up. It causes all sorts of confusion across Paris when suddenly their new heroes were the opposite gender haha.
BACK to Orgins tho...
Nino I can imagine taking the Agreste twins under his wings since they’re hopeless and becomes pretty good friends to both of them. Alya still befriends Marinette and then Marin though she isn’t as close to him at first. She gets along with Adrienne but it’s about the same degree as she does with Adrien in canon. Nino is friends with Marin too but they don’t have a lot to talk about? So they don’t really hang out as much. And I can’t remember if I answered about this privately or publicly before, but Chloe doesn’t like either Marin or Marinette and tries to be buddy buddy with the Agrestes (tho her friendship with Adrienne is much more shallow).
The gum incident still happens, with Adrien coming across as the main offender and they initially dislike Adrienne alongside him because “If they’re a friend of Chloe, I want nothing to do with them.” Adrien still apologizes and explains himself to Marinette alone so the umbrella scene remains intact. He doesn’t say anything to Marin (since it was Marinette’s seat) but I can see Adrienne separately explaining it to Marin in her brother's place. His open understanding and kindness once he knows that she and her brother is nothing like Chloe, makes her fall for him if you prefer the version of this au where Adrienne likes Marin and Marin likes Chat Noire that is. If not, then maybe her gratitude to his understanding makes him fall for her?? idk Then they exit the school and Adrienne catches up with Adrien and they leave both excited to have made new friends, and Marin walks back home with Marinette wondering where she got the umbrella from.
Also, I can't remember if I asked already, (been up for 24 hours+) but how do you see The Reveal™ happening? One pair of heroes at a time? One set of twins? How would it work?
Oh goodness, I hope you get some sleep soon!
I like to stick to canon but since the reveal hasn’t happened yet, I have nothing to really work on... so here are a couple options.
One of them finds out and puts two and two together to figure out that the bugs or cats are the twins. They either keep it to themselves until the time is right or they tell the other pair that they know and tell their own twin after that.
A pair of heroes figure it out and that creates a double reveal as they realize its each others twin that is the other bug and cat. If it were Marin/Adrienne who realized this, I see them keeping it to themselves and waiting for the other two to find out on their own. If it were Adrien/Marinette, I can see them telling their twins immediately. And if it were Adrien/Marin, I see Adrien telling Adrienne right away and Marin trying to find inventive ways to avoid telling Marinette haha. The opposite can be applied for Marinette/Adrienne, with Mari spilling the beans and Adrienne keeping silent so her brother doesn’t freak out.
They all find out at once and it’s a total mess.
Now I don’t know how they’d find out exactly, in any of these cases. Perhaps they just finally put things together or maybe one of them lets something slip either when just chatting or in a dire situation says something about needing to protect/help their twin. Or they could get caught de/transforming. TBH, I see one of them slipping up in conversation being the most likely situation.
How often do each of the siblings suit up? Is it usually marinette and Adrien? Or do they split it 50/50?
Marinette prefers fighting Akumas so she usually is the one to have the Miraculous. Marin however enjoys going on patrol instead so he’ll take it most of the time then. They tried to have an equal schedule worked out where they swap it, though they rarely are able to actually stick to it.
As for Adrienne and Adrien, the one who gets the ring is according to has the least busy schedule at the time. I still think overall, it would be Marinette and Adrien who get the Miraculous about 65% of the time.

And one last question for now. What are the seating arrangements in the classroom???
I think Adrienne would sit next to Ivan and Marin would be placed next to Nathaniel. Ms. Bustier probably wanted to separate the twins so they wouldn’t cause trouble haha.
