I used to look at clouds differently. I viewed them from every standpoint available to human perception; scientifically, creatively, childishly, adoringly; if it’s possible to think in any other way, I’ve thought it. I do have to say I looked at clouds for the longest when I was a child; before the day a certain someone walked into my life...

I had a hill; nothing fantastic or grand, just a steep hill with a willow tree sitting a somber watch over the fields before it. Whenever I stood under that tree, I would look up through its saddened branches and see a clear blue sky. I remember thinking to myself ‘what a sad tree to be.’ I was a young boy in the countryside around that time, so naturally when I came upon a large old tree, I would climb it. I didn’t know or care why back then, but looking back I feel like I was trying to cheer the tree up. I only think that way because immediately after I set foot on a branch, I felt a breeze blow against my face and blow the tree branches wildly. I looked up through the tree’s branches, and in the middle of a fearless of ocean of blue sky sat a courageous little white cloud... and immediately, the thought popped into my head, “I wonder what’s happening on that little cloud.” Twenty years later, now a writer, professionally obligated to answer my childish question have only managed to reply with the words

“Once upon a Cloud...”
