Faith and Hebrews 11:1

I put the word "Faith" into the keyword search box of biblegateway.com today. In the New Testament alone, there were 287 results for "faith" in the NIV translation and in the whole Bible the word faith is used 458 times! Faith is the most important thing in our Christian lives - we're all given a measure of it and nothing is possible without it! "God has given all Christians varying measures of faith. This is the faith with which we receive and use our varying gifts. It is the ordinary daily faith by which we live and minister." John Piper.  Hebrews 11:1 says that faith gives substance to things hoped for, because hope itself has no substance. Hope is a great thing, it can keep us going when life is tough, but hoping won’t lead to anything without faith. Faith is action, faith makes things happen, faith makes hope a reality. “Hope says, "I will have it sometime." Faith says, "I have it now.” ―Kenneth Hagin. Faith is action and faith is now, so if it's not active and it’s not now, it's not faith. Faith says, "I'm receiving right now, even as I am praying!" (Mark 11:24)

Faith is a verb (apparently there is no Hebrew noun for “faith”). “Noah constructed an ark, Abraham left his home, Jacob blessed his grandsons, Joseph instructed about his bones, Moses chose to be mistreated, Joshua fought. The saints in Hebrews 11 became famous for something they didn’t even have a name for, because apart from action it does not even exist. Faith is only expressed as a verb, because faith never exists apart from action. Your “belief” does not become true faith until you act upon it in obedience. Faith is belief in action." ―J.D. We can hope for anything: money, healing, a change in situation; but faith creates the action that will make those things happen.  (Hebrews 11:1). “Without actions, faith is useless. By itself, it’s as good as dead. Faith and works, works and faith, fit together hand in glove.” (James 2:18) Faith gets things done. “According to your faith be it unto you" (Matthew 9:29).  “Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, your faith [your personal trust and confidence in My power] is great; it will be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that moment." (Matthew 15:28) Believing in our heart that we have received what we are praying for requires an action of faith, and then we receive from God. Faith is taking that leap from hoping to the action of “Yes, I am going to get what I’ve prayed for because I’ve prayed in accordance with God’s word and God’s Word never fails!” After Kenneth Hagin was healed of a terminal illness he wrote: “You see, now I was in faith. I was believing and taking God at His Word. Believing faith is having by faith what you asked God for. Believing is taking a step of faith. And to be in faith, you have to take steps of faith because faith requires corresponding action.” Kenneth Hagin believed God had healed him and he got out of bed. He didn’t feel better, but he knew that he was healed, so he just acted as if he was. And he was!

HA WEEKEND INTERVIEW: DAN DOYLE - BAPE EU Brand Manager

Q: Dan, tell us about yourself.

A: Currently I am the brand manager for Bape in Europe. I ran the retail department for BBC and Icecream here in London. I have been doing that for a couple of years working with A number of names and working with Craig for the last two years. I have also worked for Liberty in London. I was the head of mens buyer for a brief period. I spent three years in New York and four years in Japan, working for Ships. That is a multi-brand retailer based in Japan. I was working for Comme des garcons in New York and also in Tokyo. I still frequently travel back to Japan to work with A number of names for the Japanese brand, helping them out. 

Q: When did the Bape store open in London?

A: The Bape store opened 11 years ago. The first Bape store outside Japan. It has been very successful over those 11 years. We also have an online business all over Europe. We have done quite a few collaborations with English brands. Different events with different artists. We also do a lot of press in Europe with all the high end magazines and all the big online partners out there and we have done a lot of different shoots. We are just help promote the brand not just in Europe but internationally in Japan as well. 

Q: Why Bape opened in London 

A: There was such a high demand for the brand. Originally the brand was in a store named Hideout which was a couple of doors close by to the current Bape store. At that time, they were selling Bape in that store. The brand got so popular, the next logical step was to open their own London store. Similarly, Supreme was originally only sold in the Hideout store then they recently opened their own store as well. 

Q: In terms of street fashion, what‘s the difference between London and Tokyo?

A: There are differences in trend but I think the main thing now is that these days everything is so quick because you can go on Instagram or Twitter to see what’s going on in that country. Also it has got a lot of sellers where you can buy brands that's on a Japanese website and get it shipped to UK. So there are these same sort of styles going around. There’s not as big a difference as you used to get 10 or 15 years ago. 

Q: How has the Internet affect the style of Bape? 

A: I think a lot of people who did go on to those (fashion) blogs is the people who are at the forefront of using the Internet to find out different new product. 

Someway its good cos we can let people know about what's coming out very quickly. But it also works against you in a way because its not as hard to find a new brand as used to. 

Q: What do you think about the Chinese street culture? 

A: I think Chinese is really enthusiastic about all sort of street culture. But its all very new to them. They still need time to mature into their style. Other countries is similar many years ago. Once they have been living with street culture and enjoying these street cultures for a while, they will develop their own brands and they are going to become great domestic brands as well. Same way as the Japanese did by being enthusiastic about American street culture a long time ago and then developing their own product as well. So I think over the next 10-15 years it's going to be very interesting to see China developing interesting street culture and fashion. I think now is still an early stage. 

Q: How does Bape fit into such stage?

A: Bape is part of the Asian landscape now where we got two stores in Shanghai and a Beijing store. There are great desires for Bape. 

Q: What's your expectation for H.A weekend? 

A: Some of the brands we are working with definitely have a sound interest in the event. I think it's a really good way to showcase English, American and 

Japanese brands to the community over here. It will be a great two-day event. Whichever brand that's going to be involved, I think they will have a good time. 

Q: Have you attended anything similar?

A: We have had a lot of experience with trade shows where we have 150 brands that we wholesale to. We do a lot of pop-up store and sample sales. So we know what the business is all about.
