Many people think of Buddy Ebsen as Jed Clampett of The Beverley Hillbillies, but in his younger days he was an accomplished dancer. He arrived in New York in 1928 and worked at a soda fountain while he looked for work. He and his sister Vilma had a dance act they did in supper clubs and vaudeville. They were popularly known as the "Baby Astaires."

When you dance, you spend a ton of time at the studio, in rehearsals, on stage, traveling on tour... it doesn't leave you a ton of time to socialize with non-dancers. Plus, it's such a rarefied world, who could ever understand what your life is like on a daily basis? Thus, it's no surprise that dancers end up dating and marrying other dancers.
