Hello! Iām in need of some advice. Iām trying to write a found-sense-of-self story in which the partner of a hero feels unfulfilled in the relationship because their partner is always at work. In a hero/villain fight, the partner is in an accident and needs they legs amputated. The partner then meets the villainsās civilian form as their physical therapist, and eventually gets enough self respect and leaves their relationship. I originally wanted it to culminate with the mc getting prosth- (1/2)
Thetic legs (literally now being able to āwalk awayā from the bad relationship) but I see how that could be implying people in wheelchairs do not have self-respect. Do you have any ideas that might make this better? I had thought maybe having the mc getting prosthetics earlier in the story, so itās not the biggest change they go through before getting the courage to leave the hero, but Iām not sure. (2/2)
hey dude, while I do have some spinal problems I havenāt ever been in a wheelchair for extended periods and I definitely havenāt had prosthetics. as such, I canāt really advise you on what is and is not offensive in this situation. you need to go and find a relevant advice blog like @cripplecharacters and ask the kind folks over there what they think! hope this helps point you in the right direction š

Isnāt game development exclusively for games while computer animation is broader, since it includes things like movies, advertisements, modeling?
(this is my most educated guess as Iām currently studying computer animation in college and self-studying game art for fun)
Sorry, I meant "game art" which is almost the same thing as computer animation, but a lot of the difference comes from what it's being made for, how it's being made, and how itās rigged for animation.
For instance, computer animation in movies and advertisements are specifically animated so, unless itās put on a loop, it only happens at a specific time in theĀ ātimelineā and without input from the audience. Letās say that in Moana when Maui throws into the ocean. We, as the audience, cannot do anything to prevent or cause the actual action and it will always happen at the same time within the timeline.
In a game, almost everything can be put into a constant loop at no specific time because a lot of things that happen in a game are often designed to be user-driven.Ā
For instance, if the player makes their character jump, the model is supposed to stop itsĀ āstandbyā loop, transition into the jump, and then transition back into itsĀ āstandbyā. At the same time, the objects around the character are often expected to react to the character jumping, ex: grass being pushed away or dust appearing when the character lands. These actions are driven by the player, and can be repeated or prevented as many times as we are able to.
I say all this, knowing full well the differences.
But also having already written this down for my essay and canāt use it again. /sobs
