Just an observational post too but I also find it interesting how similar Kanami and Daito's leadership is while also being wildly different from each other and how that would effect their relationship.
Both of them are exploitative, Kanami might love her brothers/Swarm Riders but her belt can literally override them and turn them in Vespoids, stronger and faster versions of themselves, whether they want her too or not. Daito obviously drains his followers chi to add onto his own strength and does so uncaringly and at first: I can see them disagreeing with each other because of their leadership ideologies and seeing the other as weak.
For Kanami, her strength is about unity. Everyone in the Hive as a role to play and that's where her strength comes from. The loyalty and complete unity of the Hive. Everyone matters and as long as they fight as a family and a Hive, they can overcome anything. More importantly; she believes in reciprocity. She serves her Hive because her Hive serves her.
For Daito, he believes in personal strength, and especially his personal strength. He uses his followers, uncaringly and selfishly. He has centered himself in his teachings and the breaking of his vows. He never thinks twice about taking and he doesn't give much back to his followers and they don't expect him too.
At first, that system would deeply unsettle Kanami but she wouldn't immediately dislike him for it and would even be intrigued by his philosophies and way of leading. After all, the Hive was engineered to fit Kanami, but Daito built his power and cult with his own bare hands and sheer will. She's a little bit jealous of him because of how he is allowed to be selfish and independent while she has to carry the weight of her brothers' futures on her back. He makes being broken seem powerful while she just constantly tries to cover the cracks of her own imperfections. She would recognize why he does the things he does and while she feels as though his philosophy is flawed, she'd be impressed that he has so many loyal followers. After all, that means Daito gave them a reason to believe in him, specifically. He inspired them to the point they'd willingly give up their strength to him. To Kanami, that's not the sign of just a mere cult leader, that's a characteristic of a ruler.
OKAY BUT THE WAY KANAMI WOULD BE SO CONFUSED ABOUT THE EX-MONK THING AND THE MONASTERY because, like, she's trained with assassins, hit men, but never monks and the Hive is so tech forward that Daito's whole thing is probably so curious to her. So when she's touring with Daito, she notices things that he doesn't because she's a literal queen and trained for luxury. Like, she admires the engravings on the stone, if his jade has anything special engraved—she'd as him what it means, and it's really the details that matter to her. She still finds the statue...incredibly vain and avoids directly looking at it because WHAT do you even say to that or has a feeling of like: "Oh, right, I'm in love with this guy-"
But she also probably likes it when he shows some of his monk origins or is very interested in it. BECAUSE HE WOULD MOST LIKELY HAVE HABITS like controlling his breathing when he realizes how angry he's getting, being able to move with discipline while being a jerk, or when they're undercover in Japan or something and he just does something at a shrine for safe keeping or if Team Sinister needs him to prepare or enchant a space, she'd like seeing him in his element. SHE'D ALSO BE FASCINATED BY HOW MANUAL HIS WORLD IS COMPARED TO HERS, like if he makes something by hand, she'd handle it so gently and just admire it or she'd like watching him make it.
But I think she'd like watching him mediate and even if she's doing it with him, she'd just pause a little and open her eyes and just...stare at him. Because for all his greed and arrogance and selfishness, if she sees him in genuine meditation posture — still, disciplined, breathing like someone who has done this for years — she is suddenly faced with the fact that he is not just a brute or a fraud. He comes from something older. Something deeper. Something he still carries, even when he denies it. And she likes that he lets her see that.
And she’d notice that immediately.
