I ordered this a couple of days ago, after watching the documentaries/pieced together footage on YouTube about Dan, The Dezirée Safaris, and about what had happened to Dan in Somalia. I won't lie and say I found him intentionally - I was led to him by clips featuring Chris Nolan and went on to find out his involvement with Dan, in the Safari group, in their humanitarian work including many other young men and women, and to find out a lot about Dan Eldon and his time around Africa - and then went on to cry like a baby when I learned what had happened in the short life he lived and his death at the hands of rebels in Somalia when he was just twenty two.
This book was put together by his family, out of his journals that had been kept since he was around fourteen years old. I've since purchased the other two books surrounding Dan, and I look forward to seeing what else this clearly bright spark of a human had achieved, worked for, and stood for in his far too short time on earth.

Dan Eldon was born in London, England in 1970. At the age of seven, a family move to Nairobi, Kenya ignited a lifelong fascination with the land and the people of Africa. Accompanying his journalist mother on her interviews, he observed the power of media to inform and inspire. His father’s work with local community leaders taught him how to transform ideas into action, sparking him to seek creative solutions to the challenges he saw in the world around him.
Today (July 12, 2023) marks the 30th anniversary of the death of photojournalist (and prolific journaler) Dan Eldon. He would have turned 53 this September.
