Dan Eldon (September 18, 1970 – July 12,1993)
I forgot to post these back in March!!! I participated in the 2019 Sketchbook Project from the Brooklyn Art Library. This is the third time I’ve created a sketchbook for this (I need to get another one for the 2020 project) and I’m so glad I did. Making this one unlocked a whole new way of making art and creating work on a deep personal level. You may or may not be familiar with Dan Eldon. He grew up in Kenya and became a storyteller. He used collage art to document his life, and his camera to raise awareness on human rights issues in Somalia during the famine in the early 1990s. His work has always challenged me to pursue the best for others and doing whatever I can to be apart of the solution. Dan was killed in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. His artwork spoke from the depths of his heart. I can only hope that I can make art and tell stories like he did.
