Alex had just been about to head out the door and check on the stables, having gotten Cass settled back in and making sure all was well. Not that she would be staying inside for long, anyway. Alex was more grateful than ever that she had been sparred any truly daunting injury. It could’ve been a hell of a lot worse. Right in the middle of tying up his work boots, there was a ring at the doorbell. Alex assumed it was one of Cass’s friends coming to check on her. He could imagine her texting every person in her contacts while she was stuck in the hospital. He got up to walk over to the door and open it, surprised to find someone he actually knew. “Oh. Dan. Hey. Cass was eating lunch if you want to see her, but for all I know she’s left the house.” Alex remembered their time in the bar. He had been hoping to talk to Dan more, at least let Dan know that he was Cass’s brother, but between the storm and Cass getting hurt, Alex hadn’t had the time. “Uh, I guess I didn’t get around to telling you that I’m Cass’s brother at the bar. Things were kind of crazy and I just didn’t get around to it,” he explained, shifting in the doorway and smiling awkwardly at him. Alex had no idea how to explain to him how truly complicated the situation was, between knowing about Cass and Cassidy’s relationship and Alex’s own feelings for Dan’s brother. “Is everything okay now that you’re back home? Hopefully there wasn’t too much damage to your house?”
