Their cover would be blown if they didn't think of something soon. Phoebe was good at talking herself out of a dangerous situation, but how would she explain both of them being there? She typically worked alone, but Damien had insisted on coming along with her. She figured it couldn't hurt having him along. It wasn't her usual job to infiltrate an Ishgardian noble's ball, but she was helping him with HIS investigation after all.

They'd hoped to find something in the lord of the manor's study. Anything to prove that he was responsible for the recent events of voidsent murdering people in the city. What they ended up with was a mess of papers and no proof. Damien looked frustrated, and who could blame him? They'd been going around in circles, chasing one thread after another. And what did they have to show for it? Nothing.

That's when she heard the footsteps coming down the hall, much too quickly for them to escape. She whispered to Damien to alert him, trying to keep the panic from creeping into her eyes. He nodded at her, confirming he heard as well. Before she could decide her next move, Damien swiftly approached her and pushed her into the bookshelf behind them. Their lips crashed together as he pulled her face towards him. The shock in her eyes was evident, though they drifted closed quickly as she caught on. Her arms went around his neck just as the door swung open quietly. She prayed they looked convincing enough... as Damien's hands dropped to her ass, fingers squeezing into the plump flesh and hiking up the side of her dress.

"Oh, uh... beg your pardon," a very awkward man's voice stuttered before closing the door behind himself. Thankfully, it had just been another guest all along. Damien pulled away, glancing over his shoulder to make sure the coast was clear. He then turned to Phoebe with a playful grin, leaning in once more to place a quick kiss on her mouth before grabbing her hand to pull her along behind him. They'd need to make their escape as soon as possible or risk being caught again.
