Dames Rockets, a plant native to Eurasia but common in the USA, line many miles of the Butler Freeport Community Trail. Photographed in June of 2020. They were brought to North America from Europe in the 1600s for use in ornamental landscapes. They become more fragrant towards evening, hence the name Hesperis matronalis. In Greek mythology, Hesperis (Ancient Greek: Hesperís, "evening") was (according to one account) the daughter of Hesperus, and the mother of the Hesperides by Atlas. Because of her beauty she was also associated with Aphrodite. #frascarelliphotography #frascarelligallery #damesrockets #hesperis #damaskviolet #dames-violet #summerlilac, #sweetrocket #mother-of-the-evening #damesviolet (at Butler Freeport Rails to Trails.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBIArIHBNwX/?igshid=81ps399c6xxb
