I don't need more clothes if I'm not freezin'
and I don't want a love that I can't feel
I can't use a dirty lie Just to help me pass my time
Love only matters when it's real
Now I met a man who made a million copper
Built himself a mansion up on high
He worked hard every day 'till his strength passed him away
Now he sits and watches lovers pass him by
I gave my gal a neck that shined with diamonds
Prettiest piece that you would ever find
She left it in the drawer when she walked right out my door
Turns out all she needed was my time
Now I know you can tell I'm not a rich man
'specs you know that I'm not a rich man's son
But you should run and play
Gather roses while you may
You can't buy your time back when it's done
- Things that Matter by Guy Forsyth [slightly edited for the setting]
A pile of art from after the last Dindel session where she met her elven grandmother~ (which was a little while back now - last session got cancelled)
It was a VERY Dindel-centric session, and had a lot of interesting developments! Of note in particular:
Dindelâs elven bloodline goes WAY back, and (nearly) always has various types of divine power
Grandmotherâs powers were for healing and as a seer - she had forseen Dindel visiting the elven city long ago.
Dindelâs great grandfather was a holy warrior using blasty magic like she has (some) access to
Dindelâs full name was always Dandelion, but just kinda slurred into Dindelion, or so I thought. But turns out her name in elvish is pronounced âDin-del-leonâ~
Grandmother was SUPER supportive and loving and proud of Dindel, giving her a sense of belonging and love that she desperately needed - bonus points for being from a female sorceress from her elven side, as she always feared she was a freak and would be an embarrassment to that side of her family
Grandmother, sadly, also knew she was dying that night - she was almost 1.5 millennia old at that point, and had been pushing to prolong her life just so she could meet Dindel, so it was bittersweet, but she was also pretty upfront about that from the start, so it wasnât a surprise either
Knowing she wouldnât get another chance and feeling a bit more self-confident and wanting to share something with her Grandmother that she hadnât with anyone before, Dindel sang for the first time in the campaign (Which Niles, her bard boyfriend, was pleasantly shocked to hear)
This actually involved me singing and I think I near died of embarrassment even after the multiple minutes it took me to work up the guts to do it
Grandmother left all her belongings to Dindel, so not only is she not technically homeless for the first time since she was very young, she also now owns an Alchemy lab outside the small hut
Dindel also nat-20â˛d a roll to start figuring out Alchemy from her grandmotherâs notes, so that went SUPER well, and boosted her confidence up even higher!
Girlâs actually feeling pretty dang good right now, probably the best sheâs felt the entire campaign~
Not all sunshine and rainbows though - aside from Grandmotherâs passing, she also found out why her mother had abandoned her and her father back when she was 5 or so. That (nearly) qualifier in the first bullet about her elven family always having divine powers? Yeah, her mother didnât. And didnât take it well when Dindel started showing that she did. At all. So thatâs kind of a bitter pill, but at least now she knows why her dad would always avoid telling her what happened.
Anyway, that aside, Dindelâs got a family legacy to live up to and is gonna go beat the hell out of a green dragon, cuz thatâs just the kind of things they do, damnit!
