The Nonviolent Gambit: Diplomatic Damage Mitigation in a Korean Science Classroom
In a Korean science classroom (I assume I’m attending college classes abroad in this dream-hypothetical thingo), it appears there are men who have begun a stabbing spree outside the doors (with hindsight, from my perspective after having completed the dream, though I didn’t know this in the dream).
There’s a woman at the classroom door blocking my view. It appeared she didn’t react in time, or, at least, what I perceived in the dream was that she was too busy panicking when she saw what was outside the door.
No offense, but in my life experience, women don’t tend to be the unflappable sort during emergency situations, & I’m often the one who has to brave the situation on their behalf & deal with it.
Anywho, a man with a knife entered, but I happened to be heading over to confront whatever the situation was. I couldn’t really tell what was happening with my limited information at the time; however, as the OG gangstas say, we ball regardless.
Luckily, my presence at the door, & my oddly reached-out hand, which I believe was meant for an awkward handshake, appeared to have deterred the man from stabbing the woman at the door, & I’d assume from going after everybody else in the classroom.
Simply, because we recognized each other, & because I happened to be kind to him, he decided to spare our classroom.
This is actually realistic for my sort. I often find myself trying to see the good in people, or not falling for the tribal games that happen when a social circle, like a school, collectively decides to oust the one weirdo, the falsely accused person, the legitimately accused person, or whoever else.
There’s usually that one asshole nobody really likes. I tend to look past people’s flaws, as a fellow flawed human, & try not to write off the humans with the more egregious flaws entirely.
I shook his opposite hand, the one that didn’t have the knife, & he decided to spare our classroom. Honestly, I don’t know how heroic these actions really were in my dream, since one stabber probably couldn’t take on an entire classroom of people.
However, later in the dream, it did appear that there were multiple people with knives, so I’d like to think this nonviolent action might have been a good decision, on balance, as a damage-mitigating play.
I then proceeded to close & lock the classroom door. He immediately stabbed some random innocent person outside, & the woman next to me, understandably, began to freak out & panic, though, from my perspective, very unproductively.
This was a particularly weird dream for me because I’m so used to the ones where I’m wrestling the gun out of the shooter’s hand or something. However, this one might be marginally more realistic, especially since I’m skinny, out of shape, & not in combat training.
