Hopefully this video works, but here’s a bit of Hongjoong and Seonghwa’s backstory in the mythology au! A bit cryptic but more will be revealed soon ;)
“There once was a village where there lived a rabbit, a fox, and a monkey who often played together. One day, the Great Emperor in the Heavens decided to test the animals’ loyalty to him. He came down from the sky disguised as a beggar and asked the animals each to bring him something to eat. The three generous animals instantly set out to honor the poor man’s request. The fox returned to the beggar with a fish; likewise, the monkey with some fruit. The rabbit, being a small and more limited animal, unfortunately was only able to bring back the grass he could gather. Ashamed at his feeble offering, the rabbit, in an act of self-sacrifice, proceeded to ignite the grass he’d gathered and threw himself into the flames to be eaten by the beggar as a meal. The action of the rabbit so touched the beggar-emperor that he placed the rabbit in the moon to become its guardian and surrounded him with smoke as a reminder to all of the rabbit’s noble death. Thus was born the Legend of the Moon Rabbit to be told for centuries to come.”
This is a piece I did for @nnnnnnnothingtoseehere ‘s mythology AU! Seonghwa is the daltokki, aka the moon rabbit, in this AU. There’s a lot of conflicting feelings and responsibility with that, though. They have more art over at their blog and would be happy to answer any questions ;)
The animatic is done!!! And all I can say is if that you're reading The More Things Stay The Same by @nnnnnnnothingtoseehere... Then there are a LOT of things going on in the background.
That being said, Seonghwa is an immortal being in Myth AU, and with immortality comes the realization that not everything stays the same forever. A lot happens to him during the occupation era. And maybe me and N like a lot of angst and even more historical research.
More of this au here!
The rabbit nuzzled up into his arms, both of them heavy and full after a huge Chuseok meal. His dad sat similarly across the table, hands on his stomach. It was hard to believe that his yearly Chuseok was spent with his singular biological family member and the daltokki himself, but he’d never change it, as strange as it was.
Our last member introduced!! He was born in 2000, so no Joseon era outfit for him! Jongho is actually only a half spirit, with his dad being a human and his mom being an Ungnyeo (bear woman). She passed when he was born, but one of his mom’s old friends (Seonghwa) helps keep him connected to the spirit side of his heritage. Because of this, he lives a relatively normal life, with the exception of being able to see spirits and interact with them (and also sometimes turn into a bear).

Before his name was Seonghwa, he was called Dal. He was the great spirit of the moon— the spirit of self sacrifice. So what could a small little tanuki spirit possibly teach him? The answer, it turns out, was everything.
Another mythology au drawing, this time in the Joseon period! Seonghwa used to go by Dal, because he wasn’t very creative with names when he first tried a human form. Hongjoong found him dancing at a Chuseok festival, and the two were inseparable for thousands of years after that. They explored humanity and all that it gave, playing pranks and trying new things. They were the best of friends— a slightly bitter but playful tanuki leading his naive and joyful friend all across the country. Everything was so happy until the imperial era.
