all this hussie stuff has got me thinking about homestuck as a work. everyone’s talking about owning homestuck now, a joke i’ve made with my friends before, and as true as it is that we are all the authors of the art we love, it’s also true a work of media can never fully be separated from its creators. homestuck as a work of art cannot be separated from andrew hussie’s societal upbringing (INCLUDING some very implicit bias thats especially prevalent with the treatment of addiction and psychosis with regards to gamzee’s character). this isn’t something a person can ignore, or at least something they shouldn’t. if it’s true that we are the creators of the works we love, then we have to be the ones to reckon with what happens when the works we love hurt us.
