so unfortunately i posted that years ago so i um. i dont remember...............the thoughts have been lost to time i fear. possibly they've been explored in daemonfics ive posted SINCE i left those tags but truly i dont knowwwwww T.T its been so long since i've sat down to write a daemonfic and i havent felt the need or desire to write any since i finished my owl house one. possibly i might have also said something in my 'daetalk' tag since thats my tag for all my daemon thoughts.

i know ive messed around with daemon-specific pronouns (ex. pronouns that denote the pair) and when i write relationships i see both human and daemon being equally involved but if i had anything specific here i truly dont have it anymore. i even dug through an old document i had of my random daemon ideas and wasnt able to find it.

lol i actually dont have many...i dont write daemon aus unless i think adding daemons will enhance the story i am trying to tell and in regards to deltarune adding daemons doesnt...like, help, in any way? part of that is that i dont think monsters have daemons, the other part of that is all of kris's issues are better explored through them being nonhuman and adding a daemon sorta just complicates that.

back before c2 dropped (like RIGHT before i was writing this thing september 2021) i did try to write a deltarune daemon au actually, but once c2 dropped it quickly fell to the wayside and all of the ideas i wanted to explore in that au were stolen and brought to a lot of my oneshots in that time period, basically everything good about that daemon au ended up somewhere in my kris&ralsei&player series here. the last bastion of the deltarune daemon au was pan but he's got a home now in drk and i have no desires or thoughts about daemons in dr.

house of leaves EXACTLY lol i love stuff like that. need more books like this and i feel like w/ daemons they can push even more boundaries.

daemon fashion my beloved it would really be so cool…god you know what would exist. something like a best friend necklace where each half gets half the necklace. maybe some of them are like best friend necklaces just with different words but there is for SURE some company that will make like. necklaces with your human/daemons face on them. so you can share those. i feel like this would be popular w/ people who just settled as a way to show off like look at us!!!! elephant!!! WAHOO!!!!

NOT THE HOSPITALS….i wonder if this would lead to specific species that are much smaller being common? since there would be less to wash…i could also see species without fur being more common (way less to shed!) and maybe even fish honestly…this WOULD require hospitals to be entirely reformatted to include places for fish to swim, but i feel like that could be really fun…bc the fish wouldn't need to be sterilized (not directly interacting w/ patients) but via tube systems could still get close enough to notice things the humans might not. i imagine maybe most doctors and nurses fit these specifics, but then there's also those with monkey daemons or something, for cases where you have to directly operate on a daemon and need the flexibility of like, opposable thumbs.

hmmm….i really like all of your ideas here. i imagine there would have to be a HUGE industry of like, all these tools we have that assume you have like, opposable thumbs to use…i mean, if you're a cat, thats, uh, gonna be kinda hard. like take writing--there must be something that allows all sorts of dameons to write things down. for some species i could imagine ink that you can just dip a claw/talon into, but for others it might be harder…maybe some sort of text-to-speech thing is developed sooner? i guess before that humans just write things FOR their daemons but thats no fun lol i want a pen a betta fish can use somehow.

oooh i didn't know humans could see uv light so that makes a lot of sense…i think the way i'd play that is that it WOULD probably happen if you settle that way, but is a bit less likely if its just a form you use sometimes…so like, the more you're in that form, the more likely it is that you're able to adapt to these new senses. but at the same time i do really like there being these distinctions between daemons and actual animals, so i would still say some things are off limits. i think this being a learned skill and not innate is the best of both worlds--some people WOULD fight out how to use and interpret ecolocation,new colors, etc, but others wouldn't care enough to bother. the colors working as being "more" is really good tho.

TECH W SO MANY BUTTONS YES…..i love this look i think buttons stick around for a LONG time, even when there is voice recognition…or at least both are offered rather than being removed from future generations of device. resistive touch screens would be a good idea too, and YES i want to see the itty bitty tiny phones made for mice and ants. water-resistant phones you can dunk in water for your fish-daemon. i mean realistically fish daemon get the short end of the stick but in an ideal world they get phones too <3 kids in classes who start texting theri daemons/humans rather than whispering to try to not be noticed. pov my ant daemon is hiding in my desk scrolling tumblr in math class but she and her phone are so small nobody notices.

yeah! severing is real fun to play around with lol, my ideas of it is like…adults will die basically 100% of the time bc (in the world where i was playing with it) settling is when you become for lack of a better word 'set in stone--' of course you're still capable of change and such but your sort of core self and baseline has been formed and that cant really. survive being cut in half. but if youre a KID, if youre still unsettled, there's a flexibility there--you aren't a 'full person' yet. you're basically a bunch of possiblites, as represented by, yknow, daemon changing. so there's a chance that you'll change in such a way that you CAN survive this shock, and figure out where to go next.

i think it would depend…personally i LOVE playing around in worlds that are Very Shitty about a lot of things so being a witch is 'breaking the rules' which are of course set in stone and unchangeable (<- that is, of course, a lie). i also tend to focus more on the daemon side lol, so, seeing a human without a daemon? not that strange. daemons can be hidden away. a daemon without a human? THATS something that has to be destroyed. because in this hierarchy, humans are on top. but of course thats just in the worlds and themes i enjoy exploring lol. lots of other ways to take it!

history is fun to think about…i dont usually touch on it in my fics bc i think most of my ideas are just Huge Bummers but i will hint at it sometimes! and i love a story that WILL tackle the way history has changed and different things have risen and fallen…very fun!

oh the alt history ideas in a world with daemons would be SO FUN. i think ive said this before but i want to see what a world with daemons would make of the prompt 'what if daemons didn't exist.' basically what a no-daemon au would look like in their world. i think it would be SO fascinating.

OOH SPEAKING OF HEART STOPPING near death experiences…not like comas where people are being kept alive but like, where you DO die but come back. i am not verse in the How behind this at ALL but near-death experiences where only one half comes back <3 bc im me i say daemon comes back (i imagine it takes some time for all the dust to disperse--so if you bring someone back quick enough, maybe you dont restart their heart, but the few sparks you got in trying is enough for the dust to come back together again?). tho yeah people in a world with daemons in general must have wayyyyy less times when people are accidentally buried when theyre still alive lol.

oooooh i have come across this before actually, but it was super fun to read again! i looooove this sort of in-universe sort of thing, its so fun to see others' ideas even if i dont always agree lol, i really enjoy that focus on "attractive" daemons that people are expected to settle as bc. i mean thats sort of the main thing i like to focus on in my own work.

oh!! so glad my work was able to help you get into writing daemon aus yourself!!! theyre SO FUN im glad youre having fun with it too!! i truly do love making daemon aus every step of that process is a BLAST. worldbuilding and animal research my beloved. AND YEAH LOL personhood really does show up more often than not.

unfortunately i will never recover from the sickness (chronic condition </3) but thanks for the well-wishes! hopefully i will make it a bit better to manage soon.........

oooh this is super interesting...i've been thinking over this most of the day and i honestly think there wouldnt be a lot of like, huge and drastic changes. i do think people would cast for appearance of the human actor AND the daemon actor, so there would 100% be casting calls that would be like 'canine daemons only' because whatever character youre auditioning for would have a canine daemon.

BUT ALSO i think there'd be like. daemon costumes!! for places where you need a specific form but your actor isnt settled as such--like, maybe youre doing a documentary about a real person who settled as a parrot, and your actor is AWESOME but a rat. so there's a rat with a parrot costume :3 i feel like this would be more common on stage than on screen (think like, if youve ever seen the costumes of lion king on broadway, thats sorta the vibe i could see), since i feel like CGI tech would make it a tad easier to pass off one animal as another.

like i dont think cgi would replace a daemon actor entirely (to me thats like casting a human actor, and then using cgi to turn them into an entirely different person) but you would use cgi like how cgi is used today, like i know some cgi is used for costuming and stuff. so maybe a daemon has a sort of green screen type costume and thats how you get some species-changes, but like, their face and general shape is still their own.

on the same thread of movies/tv/shows etc, i do think on average there'd actually be less characters per show...like a show in our world would have four main characters, but a show in a world with daemons would have two--because the daemons are characters now too! so this might mean acting is even more competitive than it is today, since there's just less roles even if theres the same number of productions.

tho this varies based on how you present daemons in your world lol, in my 'ideal' sort of daemon-world they'd get as much sceentime as their human counterparts so you'd just have to cut down on total characters, but i write worlds where things are Not good for daemons lol.

along those lines i bet theres also daemon forms that are more vs less likely to get cast--i tend to go canine + feline are the most desired and thus like. "uplifted" forms so every hero has a lion etc, so if you wanna act but youre a sea slug you are going to struggle a LOT to be cast, bc productions would be like sorry we just need dogs <3 i think there would be a mammal bias and i wonder if there'd be anti-discrimination laws passed about this? i feel like that would be really contentious in-universe though, like a thing often argued about--people like, there are totally roles for snakes! (theyre only villian parts). or you can get cast with a fish daemon! (you will never get a main part and most of the time cant even get an extra part because its "too much work" to make the space fish-daemon accessible.) basically you can take this a lot of ways too!

it's going to depend on the story you want to tell!

as for how i tend to do it, i for one am i huge fan of "let the daemons TALK" so i will go out of my way to do so lol, if a daemonfic of mine has a world in which daemons don't tend to talk it is 1000% for a specific thematic reason.

when i create my daemon characters, i tend to think about where i might split a character in two! so, for luz and mari, the point was obvious--a lot of luz's story in the owl house is about choosing between humans and witches and so when you've got a human and a daemon, it's pretty easy to just assign each half to opposing sides.

a lot of my character work is as i like to call it 'vibes based' where im not entirely sure how to explain what my process is, because if im not actively doing it i struggle to put together the words. i think humans and daemons should be mirroring each other in some way, but also i think how exactly that comes to be will depend heavily on the story you want to tell.

haha i suppose if i were to write a story using those pronouns (wei/eue) i would stick with them, but i haven't used them since 2021 i'm afraid! none of my daemon-stories have needed or been about something that would be enhanced using those pronouns specifically. mostly these days i just use pronouns we already have to refer to a person in the plural.
