Joseonjok Town
The most famous Chinatown in Seoul is actually in Incheon, just a subway ride away. The best Chinatown in Seoul is actually a lot closer.
Near the Daerim subway station, Line 2, there are tons of restaurants and stores catering to the Joseonjok, ethnic Koreans from Northeastern China. Many have come to Korea, often to take lower skilled jobs that are still better than what they might find in China. Â Although they are Korean, they speak a unique dialect and some are even more comfortable in Chinese.
In this area near the station restaurants sell Chinese specialties and Joseonjok style Korean food. Dog meat is easy to find, but so are Szechuan style soups and noodles, dumplings, and hundreds of other dishes. The food is much better than the normal Korean-ized dishes of jjambbong, tangsuyuk, and jjajangmyeon. Â The area has a reputation for being dangerous, but I had no trouble, and its worth the trip for the food!
