Hello! My name is Tiddles and I’ve lived with Mr and Mrs Button since I was a tiny kitten. Our lives are perfectly happy – but lately some strange things have been going on!

It all began when Mr Button came home with some paints and brushes. And then he spent all weekend decorating the spare room. He’s never done that before!

Soon after that, Mrs Button brought all sorts of toys into the house. At first I thought they were for me, but when I tried to play with them, Mrs Button got quite upset.

“Oh no, Tiddles!” she cried. “These toys are not for you!”

Well who else were they for then?

The next day, Mrs Button came home with a beautiful new wicker basket. It was just my size. But you should have heard her shriek when I curled up inside it! 

“That’s not your basket, Tiddles!” she said. “You mustn’t sleep in there!” It’s all so confusing!

The day after that, the Buttons behaved in the oddest way. They were both out ALL DAY and when Mr Button came home late, by himself, he hardly noticed me. He even gave me baked beans for supper – instead of my chicken supreme tasty morsels.

I tried to tell him, but off he sped out the door before I got the chance.

Well, yesterday, I had the biggest surprise of all. The Buttons came home with . . . GUESS WHAT? . . . a cute little baby! 

Suddenly everything makes sense. The decorating and the toys and the new basket were for a BABY! I don’t know why I didn’t work it out for myself! Purr!
