Hey myMallBoxers! It's almost the middle of June. Here in the USA, as well as many other nations around the world, that means it's getting close to Father's day! This day is set aside to honor our fathers and let them know how much we appreciate everything they’ve done for us throughout the years.

Many countries, such as: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, China, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and more, observe Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June. In other nations, the date or the name of the holiday might differ, but the purpose remains the same: to show our fathers how much they mean to us.

The origins of Father’s Day date back to 1909, when a woman from Spokane, Washington named Sonora Smart Dodd thought, “Hey, we have a Mother’s Day, but Dads are important, too! We need a day for them, as well!” She took her proposal to state officials, and they agreed! Thanks to Sonora, Washington State celebrated its first Father’s Day on July 19, 1910.

It wasn’t long before the idea exploded across the United States of America. Presidents urged citizens across the nation to embrace the holiday, but at first many resisted the idea, fearing that it would become too commercialized. Retailers, of course, ran with the idea, and each year in June, they heavily promoted the kind of gifts most often given to Fathers: ties, socks, tobacco products, sporting goods, dress shirts, tools... you name it! The holiday grew throughout the years until finally, in 1972, President Nixon signed a proclamation that made Father’s Day a national holiday in the USA
