Embracing that obsolescence (Ode to joy)
Dad-Rock VS indiepop, obsolescenza selvaggia e magliette per crisi di mezza età, ascoltando i Wilco sul treno.
let no one claim that i am “above” dad-rock
Mon. February 9, 2016: Deep Purple - In Concert 2xLP - Purple, 1980 Judas Priest - Painkiller b/w Touch of Evil & Hell Patrol (RSD Exclusive, Blue Sawblade /5500) Columbia/Legacy, 2015
I have L.A. Woman on cassette. some god-tier blues rock on that one. Crawling King Snake has one of the best solos ive ever heard, and its not typical at all. really stilted, crazed, schizo licks.
That album and their first are my favorites. But a close runner up is strange days. The Doors are, like, the only dad-rock band i really really like.

The Pleasure Centers - #11 - Just For Me
The Pleasure Centers are proud to release our 11th set of songs, Just For Me. Maybe we've just been too excited looking forward to the new La Sera release (coming out tomorrow!), but these new songs have a heavy pop-punk / bubble-gum punk kind of feel to them. They're also the first time I (Pete) managed to sneak a Cheap-Trick style key change past Mark, with predictable fist pumping results.
Singing these two new songs gives me a question though. Half-for-goofs, we're singing in a half-Joey Ramone style on these songs. But here is the thing: singing in a Joey Ramone style makes everything easy to sing! So, then, the question: is singing in a Joey Ramone patois easier:
because everyone already likes the Ramones, and so singing like the Ramones gives you an automatic conference boost, or
because Joey Ramone discovered a new way of singing in 1976, which helped drive them to great-ness?
There is truly no way to know. But, in the meantime, please enjoy the new songs!

from Tampa. weird blend of post-punk and 90s indie/emo.
beware: i am not entirely sure if this is dad rock or not...
Okay come on...who doesn't like to throw down with their favorite, 40-something's Irish rock/punk/jam band every now and then? No one? I guess it's me and every 22 year old bimbo at a Detroit Tigers game who embraces her seudo-Irish heritage every now and then, only to score a free beer from an adoring fan, or to catch notice of the ever so handsome, Justin Verlander.

Blackout
7/10
Some may ask, "A 7/10 rating? Doesn't seem high enough to make the cut!" Well, FYI, I dig this record for a few reasons, but those reasons stand pretty strong by themselves.
One, being the fact that I may be a little bias toward anything Irish seeing as I am a full blooded Mick through & through, and these guys were pumped into my head from an early age (as were the likes of Flogging Molly, Black 47, etc...) So, naturally, I've grown accustomed to the unique sounds of this genre, but more particularly this record.
Right off the bat, anyone with half a brain, appreciates the successful fusing of two genres, not to mention the fusing of two generations. I say this, because The DM's signature sound, being the big dog in their genre that they are, comes from two neighborhood. First, good old fashioned Rock'n'Roll. As soon as you hear those pounding, back-beat drums, the crunching guitar riffs, or those disgustingly catchy vocals, its hard not to join in the kegger...I mean...party...Second, you can't help but notice the fact that the band actually has a bag's player in the band! I don't know about you guys, but any band that can actually play rock music, and be able to jam along with the bag pipes, an instrument used in your everyday traditional Celtic Hymns, or Wakes, deserves some sort of recognition on this blog.
Also, as I wrap up, I'd like to point out the lyrics coming out of these guys. When I think of the DM's, I think "Every dad's favorite band", and to some extent, it is "Dad-Rock" sure, but that's only because they're relatable! Whether it's covering topics like being the "under dog", nailin' the captain's wife in the kitchen, or just having a good time because it's your God giving right to do so, the DM's really hit the nail on the head when it comes to gettin' on the peoples level.
Oh yeah, and for all you McBitches out there who think drinking a Guinness, and sporting a Shamrock tramp-stamp makes you Irish, you're mistaken.
