I finally went back and got a screenshot or two of a decayed stream.
Because people never seem to understand what I mean when I say "The Wifies chin"
They don't understand how I could stroll up completely locked in and ready for the Decayed and Decrepit finale and have my immersion RUINED. In less than 5 minutes when wifies appeared. BUT HOW WOULD YOU REACT IF YOU WERE PREPARED FOR THE MOST INTENSE ANGST EVER, AND SAW THIS.
I'm sobbing. WHY IS IT LIKE THAT. I mean objectively I get that it's the outer layer to get his distinctive ._. Face, but also like??? I can't take the world seriously when this is the face of the guy that's been aura farming nonstop every Decayed session he's been in. Like.
Anyhow, have this stupid doodle I made about 2 weeks ago of bro. (It was apart of the small pile of Decayed art I've slowly been piling up. )
Maybe I do say something about his decayed character. MAYBE I say something about it other than his stupid chin. Because his character was REALLY cool I guess. And like. Really well played. This is going to get really off topic really fast though probably.
A crap ton of yapping and decayed and decrepit spoilers beneath the cut.
Like. It was really crazy how both in chat, and the other people in Decayed around Spidey kept trying to guide her away from Wifies, sheerly for like bad vibes and stuff, but it was almosy entirely baseless, because while he did technically convince her not to go with Jonothan, out of everything she'd told him so far would have made sense that Wifies would not trust Jonothan.
Though it's also like. I've taken a class on psychology before and dhsjagsjsh. Oh. My. Dear. Goodness. Bro.
The fact he just sort of appeared as a friendly figure right when she would have been at her lowest point. Then he started LITTERALLY CONDITIONING HER WITH THE BREAD. Like. And they even acknowledged and joked about this in cannon?? Like. At the beginning Spidey said something like he was treating her like a dog with the bread. And he laughed and pushed it aside. And throughout the whole thing he was also slowly sort of testing her boundaries. He'd ask her to bring him places they probably shouldn't have been like the underground facility and the Atropos Machine. And if she'd ever say no he would guilt trip like. But we're friends, so you'll take me there, right? Sort of thing. Which was crazyy, and then he'd sort of back down if she got even slightly defensive. The entire time he sort of guided the conversation in the direction of things like Ish's bomb, etc. Sort of pulling information, and framing it in a way that was very we're friends so you can tell me anything. You're upset, what's on your mind. So much bloody manipulation from him. Aaaaaand he managed to twist every last thing against her in the end after it all and such like. Djshdjsh
But throughout the entire series apart from irritation with like Jonothan or Spidey being defiant or getting in his way, the only seemingly real or genuine emotion portrayed by his character semmed to be when Spidey had his spyglass. And he seemed really uncomfortable and wanted it back immediately, not having wanted to give it to her in the first place, only doing it because he wanted to gain her trust.
But the spyglass, and it's having been given to him by a. Friend. As he mentioned, seems genuinely important to him. Important despite the fact that he's come to paradise city, that he knows what he's working towards is effectively a death sentence. It's implied that it would have been Parrot to give him the spyglass because like. A friend, giving him a spyglass? Who else? But also it's never explicitly confirmed in cannon. In confirmed cannon Parrot's name is never even once spoken out loud.
One does have to ponder though, if Parrot were to exist in cannon would he have been apart of M.O.O.N? Probably if Wifies both knew and was close with him. What if Parrot was specifically the one out of M.O.O.N to have brought him in. Or what if Parrot had originally been the one who was going to be sent out on this mission, but knowing it was a suicide mission Wifies volenteered instead. What if his stating that he owed his life to M.O.O.N was a coverup as not to show vulnerability. Would be pretty crazy.
Or maybe they were just friends of a similar start. Both taken in by M.O.O.N. Both working faithfully and loyally for the company. And then Wifies was chosen to go out on a mission and was more than happy to. And the Spyglass was a parting gift.
Maybe Parrot wasn't in M.O.O.N, maybe he was an outsider that befriended Wifies. Maybe he tried convincing Wifies to leave M.O.O.N seeing how absolutely cultish M.O.O.N was. Maybe it spooked Wifies having the thing he'd dedicated his life to questioned. Maybe he ran off and mentioned it to someone at M.O.O.N. Maybe he never saw Parrot again after that, but still had a spyglass gifted to him. And maybe that spyglass was the only thing left of his missing friend that he blamed himself for the loss of.
Or maybe Parrot died horribly in this universe. Perhaps he died in the same time Wifies was saved. Or perhaps he was infected, and so the mission of M.O.O.N sang only all the louder to him because they promise to stop something of the sort from happening all the same again. Maybe that's why he shown a faint stint of compassion when Spidey and Jonothan visited 4c's grave. Why he let them.
Or maybe Parrot never even existed in that world, in that timeline. Maybe they never met. Maybe it was someone else in another scenario entirely that gave him the spyglass.
Whatever the case, it meant something to his character.
Or maybe I'm imagining half of this because it's been over a month since I watched it and my brain only just chose today to actually think veryyy hard and heavily about Wifies character.
While I'm here though and yapping there are like. A small handful of other things I've not been able to stop thinking about since they meandered into my head. Those being
First off. That fact that Ish was experimenting on 4c before the series started implies that 4c had been infected. However he did not start the series infected. We know that to some semblance Ish's character did at least mildly care about 4c's character. We know that Ish started the series with less than an hour of time left.
Do you think it's possible that he had transferred the infection from 4c onto himself?
We also know he grave robbed 4c. I don't think he even ever gave the book back to Spidey. Even if he had just taken it to lure her (and possibly Jonothan) out. He still kept some peice of 4c close to him even after he was a zombie and 4c was dead. (Then there's also him having promised not to harm 4c as a zombie, and that was just an infection thing and nothing more as mentioned outside of Decrepit by I think 4c himself. But it's still sort of like ahdjwudheh.)
Ish's character in the series is another one thay I love lots though. Like. I'm a huge fan of characters who haunt the narrative, and not only did Ish's character haunt the narrative, but from what we gleam of different peices and bits of his story, what he did before he turned. Before the series started. He went on an entire character arc. Having his opions, thoughts, and actions changed by just one person. Being inspired by the kindness and hope that still found a way to exist in human kind despite the end of the world quite litterally being apon them. And that's a common theme throughout the story for everyone in decayed and decrepit. The fact that despite everything, that no matter what hope will always exist, and even in the worst of times friendships will still be made. Love still to stand strong. Even knowing nothing will last, knowing everything could fall apart in any moment. And that being cause to savor those precious moments all the more. It's also a story of loss, of greif, how to deal with it. How to hold those people, and those memories with you, but keep moving forwards. Don't forget them, but don't let them weigh you down either.
Take this doodle for your consideration.
Next up, Magic. I don't know. It's just something about the fact that in episode 4 when Jonothan and Spidey were taking 4c to the beach she stopped them. Asked 4c not to go with them. Asked him to stay because she was worried. And he promised it would be okaym that they could catch up later. But she would never see him again. He would die that day.
And then later in episode 7. In one of her final moments of clarity. One of the moments she remembered. She ask Spidey to stay. She ask Spidey not to go with Wifies. But Spidey decided to still go with Wifies. Too saying they would be able to catch up later. That she'd still be around. But it was so soon after that Wifies pulled out the katana. And Spidey would never see Magic again. Magic would die before that could ever begin to happen.
Magic, who didn't really know, or like Jonothan for all the ways he'd been rude or inhospitable to her. But knowing he cared. Knowing he cared all the world for Spidey, that he would lie for her, that he would risk his life for her. And then seeing Spidey with Wifies, this guy neither Magic or Spidey know all that well. What would you even do.
Aughhh, but then you also have that moment. That moment when she's trapped behind that glass. That moment when everything in the world seems too close and too loud. And it's likely not even Magic speaking when it's said. But when Jonothan enters the fray and the chaos that was after Zora had just been killed. When he'd done very little yet in the situation and Magic just. Outs Spidey for having been the one to kill 4c, that Jonothan had been lying. (If it even was still Magic. It wasn't really? Aughhh, that way in episode 10 when she just yells that Magic would be upset to know all that's happening. But Magic is gone. And just ohhh. Ohh. )
Anyhow, here's a Magic doodle.
Finally. Just wanted to yap a little about Spidey's character a little in general. It's one that I've been flipping over and over in my head a lot just in general.
The entire series she seems so scared to be alone. That time in episode 3 (I think it was ep. 3?) after she, 4c, and Jonothan get separated again because Zombish had been chasing them. And when she finally found 4c again in ep. 4 how scared she sounded. How she was desprate not to get separated from him again. And while part of that was that she didn't want him to wander off on his own again. Not after how long she and Jonothan had spent looking for 4c again. She has likely had mostly negative experiences with leaving those she cares for alone.
From what we've heard of her backstory she was fairly isolated from everyone else in the world always sticking with a small group of people. But at somepoint her father got infected and she hadn't been there to help him. At somepoint he sent her away to paradise city, and the entire time she's there she feels such guilt, and such sadness having to have left him alone.
She's shown countless times to feel as though she's incompetent and wouldn't be able to defend herself if on her own.
She doesn't like being alone. But all the same she's been isolated so long she hasn't really learned to be hardened of the world yet. She openly trusts almost everyone she meets. She's constantly acting outwardly happy, bright, and cheery, and then you have the end of session 4. Which was one of her first real experiences (that we know of) in cannon where she's lost someone close to her. And so quickly she loses that brightness.
Immediately the next episode when Zombish is shown to have stolen 4c's book she so quickly loses all of her fear. All of that hesitation shown before. She's just lost almost everything dear to her. She's still trying to cope. And then Zombish just. Tears his way into it all.
And completely blinded with that sadness, and that rage she chases after him without a second thought. Jonothan has to try and stop her, and he can't.
But these experiences draw her and Jonothan closer. And there's so many things throughout the first three episodes. But it was definitely episode 4 that sort of cemented the found family dynamic togather. It almost perfectly clicked into place. Aughh. It broke me when she and Jonothan were at that beach. Both with broken promises, and finally telling Spidey that what he had wanted, what he would have wanted was his family back.
And then it's shattered into a million peices. Because when she needed him most, Jonothan leaves her. And no matter what he does nothing will change what happened at that point. She lost so much in such close proximity.
She was left open to fall to something like Wifies. A seemingly kind shoulder to lean on at her worst. Everything was a sequence of events so perfectly timed that to change even one of them would be to fundamentally change the story unrecognizably. (For sunset trio at least.)
And even at the end. Even if Zombish hadn't infected Wifies. Even if Spidey and Jonothan had made it out, neither infected, neither having lied to the other. It still wouldn't have been a happy ending. For Spidey and Jonothan to have made it out alive togather Wifies would have won, like he did in cannon. The data being sent to M.O.O.N, who will likely abuse the blueprints. Or if Spidey had chosen to stop the data. It would have meant trapping Jonothan in the explosion. Yet another person she cares about dead and gone. There was no option that would have resulted in a happy ending. Okay, perhaps she and Jonothan somehow did make it out alive and the data destroyed. They still lost 4c along the way. There's still the tragedy of whatever Ish's story was, what they learned of him, that despite all the horrible things he did, his apology in his final moments. The many people of paradise city they lost along the way. Chuck. All of the Truthseekers. Grey. Mike. Saps. Magic. Snowbird. Squiddo. Derapchu. Baablu. None of them made it out. And maybe they didn't know all of them so well, but they still knew them. And many of them were friends. But none of them made it out. All of them were still losses. Both Spidey and Jonothan lost all of their family.
And they're still in the middle of the end of the world.
There was no way this would end a happy story.
It was always going to be bittersweet.
But that was one of the overarching themes in the series. It didn't matter what group anyone in the series was from. Every single one of them experienced loss. And every single one of them had to learn how to carry that memory with them, never to forget, but never to let it weigh them down either. How to cary on despite the pain. Despite the hardship. And have hope for a better future.
I love decayed and decrepit <3
It's a truely beautiful series.
Anyjow, take this Spidey doodle and remember NEVER STOP DECREPIT POSTING, RAHHH!!!!!
