You sighed as you flopped on the couch, conveniently on the cushion Connor’s arm was slung over. He grinned, curling his arm around your shoulder and pulling you into his body.
“Hey Baby.” He whispered, planting a long smooch to your temple.
It’d been a long night. With Myles catching a cold from preschool and needing constant nose blowing help and wrangling him into taking cough medication, then to Bella having a total meltdown when it came to bed time, you were completely exhausted.
“Hey.” You sighed, curling into his warm body, nosing into his neck.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I’ve just had this headache all day and her screaming for the past hour didn’t help.”
“Babe,” He whines, “You should have told me I would have given you Myles.” He groans.
You smile, kissing his warm skin quickly before resting your head on his shoulder and staring at the TV screen that was showing the basketball game highlights.
“Hold on.” He hums, kissing your pouting lips before jumping up and rushing to the kitchen.
You pull the blanket that’s folded on the end of the couch over to your lap, unfolding it and rolling yourself into it. Connor returns minutes later carrying a glass of water in his right hand, a glass of wine in his left, theres a beer bottle tucked between his ribs and his elbow and you can hear a rattle of something from the pocket of his basketball shorts.
His smile lights up his whole face when you perk up at the sight of him, leaning forward. He sets the glasses on the coffee table in front of you, grabbing his beer before he drops it and setting that down too. You watch as he sits next to you again, pulling your headache medicine bottle from the pocket of his shorts. He shakes out two pills and hands them to you, pushing the glass of water towards you.
“You didn’t have to get me these Babe, I was about to.”
“I got it, you handled Bella all on your own the least I can do it take care of you. It’s kind of my job as your husband.”
You blush at his words, shaking your head before taking your meds. You set your glass of water back down and reach for the wine before he stops you.
“Ah ah ah.” He swats playfully at your hand. “Drink all of your water Miss.”
You giggle but play along, “But I don’t want to!”
He smiles, picking up your glass and holding it out to you. “You can have your wine once you finish your water.”
“That’s all I get? Is wine?”
“And I’ll give you a kiss.”
“Deal!”
He laughs as he watches you chug the water making a show of slamming the glass down and turning to him with puckered lips.
“Holy fuck I love you.” He giggles before giving your very much deserved kiss.
“Thanks I love you too.” You respond once he’s pulled away. “Can I have my wine now?”
“You can have anything you want.” He mutters, grabbing his beer as you grab your wine before settling you back into his chest as he focuses on the the TV again.
It’s been exactly 20 minutes since you sat down when you hear Bella crying. You whine, turning into Connor’s shoulder. “I was really hoping she’d be down for awhile.”
“I got her.” He hums, patting your shoulder so he could get up.
“But I’m on Bella duty.” You protest.
It wasn’t a lie that you and Connor are trying the whole tag team with the kids. Now that you have two your on man to man defense, and if you didn’t play that way it could get chaotic and stressful.
“It’s okay Baby, I got her.”
“Are you sure?”
“Totally.” He nods, setting his beer down and standing up to climb the stairs.
“I’m so going to blow you tonight.” You muttered as he walked away. He looked back over his shoulder, eyes significantly darker.
“Fuck I love being married.” He whispered to himself as he climbed the stairs closer to the blood curdling screams. “Bella,” He sighed as he opened the door. “Girly, you making your Mama crazy.”
She calmed a little at his voice but still whimpered as she stood in her crib, tears clinging to her long lashes.
“Honey you need to go nigh nigh,” He whispered. “That’s why you’re crying, because you’re tired.” He reached down and laid her back down in her crib but she started screaming again. “Babygirl,” He shushed her. “Isabella you need to breathe.”
Connor looked around, and then shook the corner of her crib to test how sturdy it was. Seemingly satisfied with how it didn’t budge he did the only thing he could think to do. He swung a leg over the rail of the crib and climbed in. He scooted to the side and laid on his back while Bella climbed up on his chest.
“Is that what you wanted?” He asked when she instantly stopped crying. “You just wanted cuddles from Daddy?”
She whimpered and clutched his shirt but her eyes fluttered closed while she took a few deep breaths.
Connor stayed and rubbed her back, looking up at the ceiling. Before he knew it his eyes were feeling droopy and he let them shut and sleep pull him to his dreamland.
**
You roused from your tiny nap when the news flashed with a weather report. You sat up disoriented, looking around and squinting to read the time on the bottom right hand corner of the TV. How was it 11:57pm already?
You leaned for the remote to turn the TV down when you noticed Connor’s full beer still sitting on the coffee table. Standing up you peeked into his office down the hall and saw the lights were off and he wasn’t there.
“Connor?” You whispered, shutting the TV off completely, heading off to search for him.
You start climbing the stairs slowly, sleep still aching your joints.
You look down the hall where Bella’s room was open. You tip toe closer and peek inside not seeing him in the rocking chair. You shut the door behind you and continue your search coming up short in Myles room, the laundry room, and your bedroom. You dial his number after you’ve checked the entire house and come up empty.
You can hear his ‘Friends’ theme song ringer going off and you start walking closer down the hall as it gets louder. Your brows furrow as you open Bella’s room again, taking a step in this time and finding the most soft thing in the world.
There passed out holding his daughter on his chest was Connor David Brashier in Isabella’s crib. You snicker lightly as you take a picture and then quickly put your phone away to wake him.
You nudge his arm, trying your hardest not to scare him since he was holding Bella. You caress his cheek, smiling when his eyes flutter open.
“Hi Baby.” He smiles, face all sleepy swollen.
You coo, “Hi Hon.” You whisper.
“Whatcha doing?” He mumbles.
“Honey,” You rub your thumb on his cheek. “Don’t freak out.”
“Okiii” He smiles.
“You fell asleep, and you’re holding Bella.”
At this his eyes widen, finally becoming totally aware that he wasn’t dreaming. His head whips up as he looks to his chest where Bella is asleep. “Oh my god.” He whisper cries. “I can’t believe I fell asleep!” He looks to you with horror in his eyes. “I could have rolled on her!”
“You didn’t.” You shake your head, still rubbing his cheek.
“Oh my-”
“Shh, lets get you out of there and off to bed Sleepy Boy.”
He slowly shifts Bella onto the mattress and carefully climbs out of the crib. You take his hand leading him to your bedroom to get ready for bed. When you step into the bathroom you hear him exit the room for a moment. When you start pulling the covers on the bed back he reenters.
“Where’d you go?”
“Double checking the house was locked.” He hums, sliding past you to check and make sure both baby monitors for Myles and Bella were on. Once he’s checked everything and plugged his phone in he sheds his jeans and t shirt and climbs into bed after you.
“You’re an amazing father.” You rub his back as he tries to get comfortable.
“Yeah?” He asks softly.
“The absolute best, I think I completely melted when I found you with her.”
He grins when he feels your arms snake around his torso. He grabs your hand, pulling you closer so your flush against his back. When he feels your bare chest to his bare back his eyes pop open.
“Are you topless right now?”
“Yeah, are you ready to go to sleep or did you want to....”
He rolls over in an instant, rolling you under him so he’s hovering over you.
“Fuck I love you.” He grins, leaning down to kiss your neck.
This time around, you two weren’t interrupted when you needed a moment with each other.

The phone rings three times before he answers, each ring seeming to last hours longer than the other.
“Babe? I’m in the middle of class, what’s wrong?”
“Fuck sorry I thought you were out at 2.” She sobs.
“Are you crying? What the fuck is going on?”
“I just need you right now.”
“Okay, what’s wrong?”
“I didn’t want to tell you over the phone.”
“Tell me what?” He insists, starting to freak out a little.
“Connor, I think I’m pregnant.” Mia whispers, the tears escaping her eyes as she squeezes them shut.
“What?” He gasps.
“I’m really late, really really late.”
“Okay, okay okay.” He rushes back into his classroom, grabbing his things hastily and rushing out the door.
“Don’t be mad.” She sobs, hand covering her mouth.
“What?” He stops in the hall. “Why would I be mad?”
“I know you didn’t-”
“Babe it takes two to tango, I know the risks of our physical activities.” He smirks, biting his lip. “Where are you?”
“I’m in a Target parking lot. I just bought the test. I’m about to go home.”
“Okay,” He rushes to the parking garage. “Don’t take the test without me. I want to be there. Okay? I’ll meet you at home.”
“Connor, you have practice.”
“I have a short break between class and practice, it’ll be okay.” Practice was the last thing on his mind right now.
“No Connor.” She argues.
“I’m not going to practice until I find out. I’ll meet you at home.”
“Con-” She stares at her phone like it’s foreign when she realizes that he’s hung up on her.
_______________________________________
She pulls into the locked underground parking of their apartment, spotting him leaned against his car. She’s grumbling under her breath as she gets out.
“Connor David it is a 20 minute drive from campus, we got off the phone 8 minutes ago.” She slams her car door, glaring at him.
“I needed to be home.”
“You could’ve been pulled over or in an accident, there's no way you made it here without going at least 70.”
He just shrugs, turning and walking to the elevator that will take them up to their apartment floor.
“Connor you need to go to practice.” She gripes as they wait together.
“I know!” He looks over at her with a stern look. “But I’m finding out first.”
The rest of the wait for the elevator is silent, and when machine beeps they both step through the opening doors. She stands against a wall, him the other. It’s dead silent, and the tension is thick.
“Talk to me.” He whispers, reaching his hand out for hers.
He laces their fingers together, tugging her into his body, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“I just don’t want you to be mad.” She mumbles into his chest.
“Hey,” He squeezes her tighter. “I’m not mad.”
“You just seem upset.”
“I’m freaking out a little bit, but I’m okay Babe.” He kisses her forehead.
“I don’t know if I am.” She stutters over a breath.
“Then let me be here for you.” He rubs her back as the doors open, leading them down the hall to their apartment door.
He unlocks the door, ushering her in and shutting the door behind himself.
They give each other hesitant stares as they walk to their bathroom, he plants a sweet kiss to her lips before letting her head in.
“Wait!” He sticks his hand into the door before she can close it. “Let me call coach first.”
“Why?” She asks confused. That’s the last person she would think he would want to talk to.
“To tell him I can’t make it to practice today.”
“What no! Connor, you’re going to practice.”
“But I want to be here with you.”
“You will be, after practice. You’re going, no matter what the result is.”
“But-”
“I’m telling you right now, you’re going to practice no matter the answer, or I’m not gonna take this test right now.”
He sighs, nodding and motioning to her to take the test.
He bites on his nails as he waits for her. For an odd reason he feels calm. When he thought about a moment like this in the past he felt like he would freak out, that he would go crazy. But right here, in this moment, he knows that they’d be okay. The thought of having a little human, a perfect mix between him and Mia, running around the apartment makes his heart take off in a sprint.
It really surprises him that he’s wishing and praying that this test comes out positive.
The door opens and he jumps up from his spot on the corner of their bed.
“Well?” He asks.
“Still have to wait a few minutes, thought maybe we could wait them out together.” She nervously replies.
“Of course, come here Baby.” He opens his arms for her.
“Don’t say anything,” She nuzzles her face into his chest. “Just hold me and breathe with me.”
“Okay Baby.” He nods.
So they breathe, in silence, inhaling and exhaling. It’s become peaceful in their room. They’re standing there putting their faith and trust into the other, willing each other to get through this moment.
Her alarm on her phone dings and makes them both jump.
“It should be ready.”
“Okay,” He nods, walking with her to the bathroom. “Do you want me to look or no?” He asks.
“You can look.” She nods, gripping his hand tightly as she picks the stick up off the tub ledge.
They both look down, scanning over the pink stick.
He doesn’t know how to feel when he walks in the door after practice. She had practically pushed him out the door with his gear once they had the answer to the test. He wasn’t sure how to take that reaction.
“Con?” She calls when he shuts the door, toeing his shoes off.
“Yeah?”
“Hey,” He hears her softly murmur. He rounds the corner, finding her on the couch. She’s snuggled into her blanket.
He looks at her, seeing his whole future flash in his eyes before the burn of her not wanting him there when they found out that she was pregnant sears through his heart. He walks past into the bedroom, not really acknowledging her.
Mia sighs, her own thoughts and doubts clouding her mind. Standing she makes her way to the room, taking a seat on the corner of the bed as he changes into sweats and tee shirt.
“Are you mad at me?” She asks softly, picking her nails.
“No, just feels like you’re pushing me away.” He turns to look at her.
“I don’t mean to. I’m not pushing you away, I just didn’t want you to miss practice and be benched. I didn’t want you to ruin your football career the way I’ve ruined your life.” She whispers, voice caught in her throat as the words slip from her tongue.
He drops the shirt he was holding and crouches in front of her, taking her hands and squeezing them in his own.
“Hey!” He forces her to look at him. “That’s not true, that’s so far from the truth.” He shakes his head, heart breaking at the thought of her feeling this way. “Baby, have you been sitting here since I left thinking that?”
“Yeah.” She hiccups, wiping her tearful eyes with the sleeve of his sweatshirt she’s wearing.
“Baby!” He cries, lunging up and tackling her on the bed. “Oh my god stop!” He holds her close, rolling to his back so she has to lay on top of him. “You haven’t ruined my life.” He kisses the top of her head. “I promise Baby, I’m so happy right now.”
“You are?”
“Of course I am. Honestly, I sat here praying you were pregnant when you took the test today. I’m so excited to have a future with you and to raise a family with you.”
“But we’re so young.”
“We’ll figure it out, we’ve got time to figure out a game plan. It’s okay.”
“But-”
“Let’s not worry about everything today okay? Let’s just be happy we created a miracle.”

2 days later they’re in the waiting room of an obstetrician’s office. He’s holding her hand while they wait, playing with her fingers and smiling at her every time she looks over at him.
“Mia Burke.” Is called by a nurse who’s just opened the door that leads to the back of the office. They both stand, him smiling and her avoiding eye contact as they walk through the door.
The nurse takes them to room 4, letting them know that the doctor would be in soon and to take a seat. Once she closes the door Connor helps Mia up onto the exam bed, and then sits in the roller stool next to the counter.
She takes a deep breath and he leans over to hold her hand again.
“Con,” She sighs look at him. “I’m really scared.”
“Why? Baby I told you that we’re okay. Everything is okay.” He kisses her knuckles in hopes of soothing her.
“I’m just nervous.” She shrugs.
“I know,” He nods, “Me too. But look, I’m right here. I’m gonna hold your hand the whole time.” He says in a way so that she knows he doesn’t just mean the appointment but through their lives together.
Before they know it the doctor has arrived, taking note of the symptoms and sending Mia off to pee in a cup so they can thoroughly check.
Connor bounces his leg, letting his nerves run free when she leaves the room. He wants to be strong for her, wants to be the person she needs to lean on, but he’s on the verge of freaking out himself. This is a scary time. He’s life has gone from football and Mia, to now a family and Mia. He’s got so much more to think about now, so much more responsibility.
Mia walks back in the room, walking to him instead of the table. He looks up, following her movements with his eyes and then realizing that she wants to sit on his lap. He sits straight, opening his arms and wrapping them around her when she sits.
“I’m sorry for earlier.” She rests her head on his shoulder.
“Why?”
“I just don’t know why I’m so emotional. So I’m sorry.”
“Look at me.” He leans back so she has to look in his eyes. “If I hear you apologize for any of this again ‘m going to lose my mind.” He chuckles a little. “It’s breaking my heart that you feel like you need to apologize to me. I got you pregnant, me, I did it. That’s my kid in there. I did it, and I’m so proud I did because the love of my life is having my kid.” He rests his hand softly on her belly.
Tears well in her eyes at his words, everything she’s been worried about floats away at his reassuring demeanor.
“And you can be as emotional as you need to be okay? As your boyfriend and Baby Daddy it’s my job to be here for you. So let me be here for you okay? I love you so much, you’re my whole world.”
“You’re everything Connor David.” She smiles, eyes watering but full of love.
He leans up, waiting for her, grinning before she plants her lips on his. He breathes her in, squeezes her a little tighter and hums at her taste.
The doctor knocks at the door prompting them to part. She jumps back to the bed as the doctor and nurse walk through the door.
“Well Mia, you’re 8 weeks pregnant, and I’d like to do a sonogram to check on a few things.”
Mia does as told, getting comfortable and lifting her shirt a bit. Right before they squeeze the blue gel to her belly she reaches out, Connor taking her hand and winking at her.
Connor can barely sit still. He’s so excited for this doctor appointment. He barely slept the night before. He tossed and turned, but all his brain could think about was the moment they were about to experience.
If they were having a Boy or a Girl.
“They aren’t gonna like destroy our apartment right?” Mia asks as she watches a snap from Alessia showing Connor and Brian raiding their cupboards.
“No, Les is there. She’ll make the behave.”
“She’s letting them eat your Oreo's.”
“NO SHE’S NOT!” He looks over at her screen that is playing a video of Shawn stuffing four Oreo's in his mouth.
“Well now Shawn’s about to owe me $100 dollars and a new box of Oreo's.”
“You did not make a bet too!” Mia shoves Connor’s shoulder. “It’s bad enough that Shawn and Brian were making bets. I do not need the father of my child wagering our nursery money on the gender.”
“We’re about to be $150 dollars richer.”
“You said $100.”
“Yeah, $100 from Shawn and $50 from Brian.”
Mia rolls her eyes as their doctor enters the room. Suddenly the air gets thick and the tension settles showing off the young parents nerves.
“Are we ready?” Their doctor Steph asks.
“So ready!” Connor nods, leaning closer to Mia, interlocking their fingers.
They stare into each others eyes as Steph moves the wand around on Mia’s small belly bump.
“And there,” Steph points to the screen, gathering both Connor and Mia’s attention. “Is your,” She clicks a few buttons and resets the wand. “Your little girl.” She smiles at the couple.
“I KNEW IT!” Connor erupts, standing and jumping.
Once he calms he leans over Mia, planting a kiss to her lips and then her forehead. They both snap from their moment when they hear an unmistakable heartbeat.
“That’s,” Connor smiles.
“That’s her little heartbeat. It’s really strong, I like that.” Steph nods. “She’s doing perfect.”
Mia smiles, looking at the screen and then back to Connor. Her face drops when she notices that he’s on his phone, typing in a few things.
“Connor? Really?”
“Sorry,” He taps the screen a few more times. “Was just getting that Isabella sign.” He grins, stuffing his phone back into his pocket.
“You couldn’t wait 15 minutes until we were done?” Mia asks.
“He’s excited, let him have his fun.” Steph pats Mia’s arm.
“I knew it was a little Princess.” He gives Mia a smug smile. “You gave me shit for buying that dress, but I fucking knew it.”
“Okay Potty Mouth, you were right.”
He bites his lip, leaning in for another kiss. Appreciating his girlfriend, and the fact that she’s carrying his daughter. DAUGHTER. How crazy is that?

They cautiously open the door their apartment, one expecting a rager while the other was impatiently bouncing to collect his money.
“Guys?” Mia calls out when all she’s met with is silence.
“Living room!” Alessia calls back, all three guests standing to greet the newly informed couple. “Well?” She asks when they walk in.
Connor grins, looking to Mia receiving the go ahead no. “Boys,” He looks back to Shawn and Brian. “Pay the fuck up because we’re having a girl!” He calls, voice booming through the whole apartment.
Alessia screams in excitement bounding over the coffee table to get to Mia.
“Fuck me!” Brian groans.
“Shit man,” Shawn shakes his head. “Congrats though, I know you wanted a girl. I’m happy for you.”
“I just wanted a healthy baby.” Connor shakes his head.
“Yeah,” Brian nods, slapping a 50 dollar bill into Connor’s hand. “But we all know you really wanted a girl, you didn’t hide it well.”
“I knew it, can’t deny it.” He shrugs nonchalantly.
“He already bought the name plate that goes over the crib.” Mia grins, wrapping her arms around Connor from behind. “We don’t even have a crib.” She kisses between his shoulder blades and curls her fingers into his jacket.
“Your little girls already got you wrapped around her finger.” Brian teases Connor.
“Blame her Mom.” Connor responds, causing Mia to let out a loud gasp.
“Excuse you.” Mia leaves a playful smack to Connor’s chest. “You’ve been whipped for this little girl since she found out about her.”
Mia lived to be in the stands watching her boy play. It was her absolute most favorite thing to do.
She grew up watching football with her family every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday. It was just what her family did. So to say her family was Connor’s biggest fans was an understatement. They showed up to almost every game in blue and gold, his number painted on their cheeks, screaming his name almost as loud as she did.
He could spot her anywhere in the crowd, having been the one to get her the tickets he made sure that she sat in the same spot at every game. Her auburn hair made her quite easy to spot, and then that smile was always there to greet his desperate eyes.
This game though, was something else. He was really feeling the crowd and his teammates. He was throwing passes like it was as easy as breathing. He was trying out the new plays, and even resorting to some old high school fun. He was simply on fire, and having Shawn and Brian being in the same level of play just made for an exciting day of football.
They finished the game 58-7, and when he saw the look on her face before he headed to the locker room he knew he was in for a long night.
That was all he could think about.
“Brashier! You did me proud today.” Her dad spoke up first when he walked up to her family.
He grinned and nodded. “Good, I’m glad.”
He hugged her Mom, and shook her Dad’s hand. Her brother Jeremy gave her a ‘bro shake’, and Jeremy’s girlfriend Sarah settled for a polite wave. Once he was done saying hello to everyone he turned and locked eyes with his girl.
“Hey,” She smiled. “You did good.”
“Thanks.” He blushed, hugging her quickly before standing beside her and staring at the rest of her family.
They all spoke idly about how work and school was going for everyone, and he inhaled sharply when her hand slipped into the back pocket of his jeans. He looked down at her, shooting her a glare. All she did was squeeze his ass in response.
He coughed and cleared his throat, catching her mother's attention. “Are you feeling alright Connor?”
“I’m okay, I’m just really overtired, had test a test today and practice this week was grueling.”
“Oh, Mia, why didn’t you say anything. We’ll head out, you two get some rest okay? Don’t need my kids getting sick.”
Mia and Connor both nod and smile, hugging and waving goodbye.
“Overtired?” Mia grins looking to Connor as her family drives away.
“Overwhelmed?” He wraps his arms around her waist once he can’t see the car, pulling her close to his chest.
“With what?”
“Wanting you?” He bites his lip, cocking his head to the side.
“Oh yeah? Well you might be in lu-”
“Brash! Fucking hell of a game, party at Shawn’s.” Brian claps his shoulder roughly, jostling them out of their moment.
They both turn to see redheaded Brian Craigen and his girlfriend Alessia standing beside them.
“Mia! Are you coming tonight? I need a drinking buddy.” Alessia asks, bouncing on her toes.
“What am I hmm?” Brian asks, leaning down to be close to her face.
“You’re my boyfriend who’s gonna go party with all his teammates and come back to me when you can’t walk straight because you drank too much. It’s a system at this point. I just hate drinking with that new girl Shawn’s with? She’s just not the kind I hang with.”
Mia looks at Connor, silently begging him to come up with some excuse as to why they can’t go.
“Yeah we’ll meet you over there, I wanna change.” Connor nods, fist bumping Brian as Alessia squeals about having Mia come tonight.
Once they leave Mia and Connor head back to her car, he notices her pout right away. “What?” He asks, once they’re both seated safely in the car.
“We sent my family home to go to Shawn’s?”
He sighs, taking her hand across the console as he drives them back to their apartment.
“No,” He shakes his head. “We’ll go to Shawn’s long enough to make an appearance, say hi to Bri and Les, take a pic with them so the next morning we can say we were there, and then leave.”
“So I’m gonna have to get ready just to leave?”
He looks over, eyeing her quickly.
“Why would you need to get ready?”
“Because I can’t wear this to a party.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s your practice jersey, it’s not party attire.”
“It’s a celebration because I just won us a helluva game, you look hot as fuck in my jersey, I would say its party attire.”
“You really like it?”
“I really really really like it.”
“Well stay no longer than an hour?”
“I’ll get us out of there in 20 minutes.”
“Okay fine.”

It took him 12 minutes to pose for a beer pong picture with Brian, to peel Shawn away from the new girl he’s with and give their signature peace signs to the camera lens, and to get a picture of Mia and Alessia in front of the set photo backdrop wall.
They were back home to their shared apartment in no time.
“Leave it on Baby.” Connor husks, tugging her hands away from the hem of his jersey.
He has her pressed against the wall of their hallway, not having the patience to wait until they got to the bedroom.
