I’ve understood it to mean that bisexual people are attracted people of their own gender identity and those that have different identities. As someone who ids as non-binary and bisexual I’m confused as to how that definition excludes me. I’m nb and I am attracted to other nb people as well as people who don’t id as nb.
some non-binary people have very specific gender identities and many non-binary people struggle to fit into the ‘same-gender attracted’ model. non-binary is an umbrella term with a lot of specific identities sitting under that.
for example, a non-binary person who was attracted to men & women would not be classed as ‘bisexual’ under this definition.
or a trans guy who is attracted to women & non-binary people (but not men) would not be classed as bisexual either
