While I love the model I’ve created, it cannot exist to be beneficial if we still live in a world that controls our personal relationships from the outside. It’s up to no one but the people involved to decide who and what they are. Gossiping is one thing, but it’s almost as if it’s someone’s duty to judge and decide for someone who they are.
Black people especially feel the brunt of this, our bodies and relationships historically have been controlled and continue to stay controlled.
I wanted to create the DA model because i felt i couldn’t truly express the relationship I wanted to have or stay away from. Ideas about relationships are largely based off colonialization and an attempt to uphold Christianity and white supremacy. Especially the nuclear family and traditional marriage. Europeans looked at African relationships and called it blasphemy. They barred black people from legal traditional marriage during slavery. They demonized black allosexuality. They ravaged Black families and familial structures. I don’t want my relationship to mirror that.
Our current view of romance is largely based off of Western european ideals and thus should not be paraded around as the only option, solution, or even the only way to have romance. I will never let a white person, aromantic or not, dictate what relationships to mean to me and my black ass.
