I’ve been listening to “Double Nickels on the Dime” a lot lately. I’d forgotten how perfect that album was. George Hurley’s drums actually the true genius of that album. Yes, I’ve always love D. Boon’s guitar and Mike Watt’s bass, but have you really listened to George’s drums?
Uranium Club have undoubtedly been influenced by Minutemen. But, no offense to their drummer, but they’re missing a George Hurley. This music is amazing, but any Minutemen reference to them is absolutely missing the drums. Uranium Club aren’t deficient in any way...just don’t expect that drumming.
Uranium Club are clearly honing their sound and their influences. I can also hear Parquet Courts, Devo, or Wire.
This is released by the excellent label Static Shock Records. This has several domestic distributors (Lumpy Records...maybe Digital Regress?).
