They mentioned that they liked the Hannibal Lekter, Clarise Starling – it was a jumping point for the relationship and obviously, it’s different (her relationship with Frank.) But I went back and read the original series and found that Clarice Starling is actually a really nice inspiration for Karen in general. [...]

I like that she is a woman in a man’s world. That people assume that shes gonna be worse at her job just because she is a woman in a mans job. So I like that struggle that she is up against.

I also like that Starling, if you read the books, has to keep her background a bit of a secret because she is from humble beginnings and she is afraid that if people know who she is, they wont trust her. And that’s sort of similar to Karen. That she keeps her past very hidden for different reasons, potentially.

And that Starling, even though she doesn’t enjoy violence, she is willing to do what she has to do to save lives. To get the information that she needs. And that feels the most Karen to me. Karen doesn’t want people to die, she doesn’t want people to be hurt, but she will do what she has to do to make sure that justice will be served, which is why the hookup with Punisher is such an interesting connection.”

DAW : “I don’t know. It’s what fuels him to kill so if he dates and he has to give it up –”

EJ: “Oh well Karen’s really nice, maybe I’ll just settle down.”

DAW: “I don’t think Karen wants to settle down. That’s the other part.”
