I am too tired to dissect other aspects of my mental/physical health, but luckily my dentist gave me an itemised list of all the work that he is still planning on completing/charging me for. As you can see in the image, the total is $3,125, and my insurance (lucky that I am to have it) only covers $2,216

Receiving this treatment plan today was very overwhelming and stressful, as this means I need around $909.

This isn’t counting the emergency root canal I had last year (i just keep ignoring that bill, i’m sure it’ll bite me in the ass later)

I would really like to move to the Bay Area and hang out/live with other rationalists. If I had a programming job there I'd be able to do this. Consider this post an open invitation to connect me with job opportunities. I don't know if my tenuous connect with rat Tumblr is worth anything, but I'm desperate at this point.

I've been pushing buttons to make computers do things since I was, like, 9. 17 years later, I've done lots of stuff but none of it for money, because badbrains. Possibly relevant skills, in order of competence:

Haskell. Most of my work has been in Haskell, and I've made various contributions to the ecosystem.

Programming language implementation. I've made a bunch of contributions to a language that is too uniquely identifying to name. These are all more practical than theoretical.

Writing/teaching. I'm a somewhat talented technical writer and have taught a little at a local meetup.

Web development. I've built a web application with a Haskell backend, as well as one using AWS Lambda. Frontend stuff using React and jQuery.

Machine learning. I've been through Andrew Ng's Coursera course and made a tiny amount of money from numer.ai, using TensorFlow and Python

You clearly have no idea how emotionally manipulative people like daynapapaya work.

She’s no different than the “Nice Guy” who is nice to you in hopes of you giving him something (not necessarily sexual) he wants, saying, “Oh, it’s quite all right you don’t have to” and then you say “Shut up and take my (fill in the blank).”  The asker has where he wants you like any good con artist and that you don’t get anything in return is just you being used.

Because if she really were the genuinely nice person, she wouldn’t have asked in the first place.  She wouldn’t have imposed on anyone else with the struggle of her pet, especially not in a passive-aggressive “I’ll follow you if you just reblog this” and then back out on that, while shaming and suicide-baiting those who disagree with her by telling them to go away and blocking them (because to her if you’re not giving money, you’re worthless).

People on Tumblr can see that the Nice Guy isn’t so nice since he is only nice to get what he wants, and isn’t nice to everyone.  The great irony of Tumblr is that they can’t see the same dynamics happening when it’s a cause they sympathize with because of Internet celebrity.

Celebrity is a form of privilege.

Disposable income is a form of privilege.

Giving up your money to a person who is already privileged over increases their power and influence over all those who lack these traits.

That right there is about the only thing that's keeping me alive right now.
