the OP of that dogs fundraising post isn't even asking for people do donate for "nothing in return". she is selling prints of her artwork on the gofundme page and is even doing pet portraits. people are just choosing to donate without a reward because they want to. and who are you to tell them what to do with their own hard earned money? really dont understand your argument against this.
You clearly have no idea how emotionally manipulative people like daynapapaya work.
Sheâs no different than the âNice Guyâ who is nice to you in hopes of you giving him something (not necessarily sexual) he wants, saying, âOh, itâs quite all right you donât have toâ and then you say âShut up and take my (fill in the blank).â  The asker has where he wants you like any good con artist and that you donât get anything in return is just you being used.
Because if she really were the genuinely nice person, she wouldnât have asked in the first place.  She wouldnât have imposed on anyone else with the struggle of her pet, especially not in a passive-aggressive âIâll follow you if you just reblog thisâ and then back out on that, while shaming and suicide-baiting those who disagree with her by telling them to go away and blocking them (because to her if youâre not giving money, youâre worthless).
People on Tumblr can see that the Nice Guy isnât so nice since he is only nice to get what he wants, and isnât nice to everyone. Â The great irony of Tumblr is that they canât see the same dynamics happening when itâs a cause they sympathize with because of Internet celebrity.
Celebrity is a form of privilege.
Disposable income is a form of privilege.
Giving up your money to a person who is already privileged over increases their power and influence over all those who lack these traits.
And as someone who is underprivileged in this and many other regards, I am someone who can tell you that it is wrong for someone of influence to ask of those who do not have that access. Â And it is even worse to provide it and impoverish your fellow humans.
