Spawnâs Universe was⊠an experience. Jim Cheungâs art was worth the price of admission, though!
The Two Faces of CY-GOR!!!!!
Alrighty, I think Iâve mentioned a time or two on this blog that I am not a Spawn fan.
However, I am a fan of gorillas. Â Especially cyborg gorillas. Â Especially especially cyborg gorillas who are made into action figures!
So of course I bought this Cy-Gor figure when it was first released, Spawn-fan or not!
Like many McFarlane Toys action figures of the time (this guy was released in 1996), Cy-Gor is not very well articulated. Â His arms swivel at the shoulders, his hands swivel at the wrists, his legs (barely) swivel at the hips, and you can turn his head a smidge.
As much as I want articulation in my action figures (otherwise theyâre just statues), this figure overcomes that deficiency with pure gorilla awesomeness!
Then, two years later, McFarlane Toys gave us this guy:
Officially billed as âCy-Gor 2,â this mega-monkey is about 50% taller than the first.
This time out, the folks at McFarlane Toys improved his articulation a bit by giving him ball joints in the shoulders, so his arms can swing out. Â Still no articulation in the elbows and knees, though.
Cy-Gor 2 also has a neat gimmick: his torso opens to reveal a âcyber chimpâ stored inside!
My cyber chimp seems to have escaped (I hope heâs at the bottom of the box somewhere), which is why I did not take a photo of the figure with the torso open.
Cy-Gor 2 is draped in some spiffy real metal chains, which was a common accessory for many McFarlane Toys figures. Â The trick is to make sure they donât snarl or get snagged on anything.
Once I get these guys home Iâm gonna have them battle it out with my King Kong figures! Â Total money madness!
