No one would accuse Kaito of being lazy, but you couldn't call him motivated, either. Staying so late at Crypton wasn't like him. From the booth he was in, he couldn't tell that the halls had grown quiet and the skies had grown steadily more dark. But he did know that he had been practicing for a very long time. Ah, well. The official recording was tomorrow, and he wanted to be done as soon as possible, so he could meet with Miku afterwords.
The silence assaulted him as he walked out of the booth, a wordless accusation of how long he had taken. Well, there was a sense of tired accomplishment in that, in knowing that he'd go to the recording booth tomorrow prepared and ready to knock out the song in three or four takes, at most. He had often gone in with no practice beforehand, and spent a day with a frustrated producer as he pushed his vocal chords to the limit again and again.
Still, accomplishment or no accomplishment, it felt downright eerie as he left the recording booth's room to walk down the empty halls. He supposed it made sense to feel out of place, when the halls were usually filled with people. The ghosts of conversations bounced off of the walls, and he found himself straining his ears to hear them. And then there was a ... footstep? Maybe, but also maybe just his imagination as he strained to hear something, and in fact he thought that was probably the more likely scenario, until --
He couldn't help the startled gasp that escaped from parted lips at the sudden sight of the other as he turned the corner; the entire situation was just too surreal. He was face-to-face with a doppelganger, a lookalike with cat ears and a strange outfit, and although he knew about the androids, it was still a moment before his brain made the connection. A long moment.
❄~ "Oh! Ah ... Sorry. I wasn't expecting ... I mean ..."
Flustered words tangled with each other, until he had no option to admit the truth in a slightly sheepish tone. It was silly to be taken so off-guard by a person in an empty hallway, even if that person did happen to have your face. After all, this was a public place, and they were co-workers, weren't they? Although that was a bit strange. He didn't really consider the microphone his co-worker, did he?
