Itās not until youāre in the hairdresserās chair, in front of that mirror with your black front cape on, that you realise how ugly you really areā¦
Kidding, youāre all beautiful. But really those lights in the hairdresser salons do nobody any favours.
This is just one downfall of using a proper hairdresser to cut your hair. Other than the usual:
Hairdresser: āThere, all done. What do you think?ā
Me: āLooks great, just what I wantedā⦠*Thinks itās hideous what have I done to my head I cannot go out in public what happened here*
Hairdresser: āGreat, see you next timeā
Me: āYep, see you then!ā ā¦*Thinks Iām never coming back again. Comes back next month for same thing*.Ā
Anyway! How do we solve this? Cut it yourself.
Really, my actual reason for cutting my own hair is because I live in Berlin and Iām too afraid to go in and try and explain what I want done in another language. As you can imagine, I could go in with my long hair and come out with a pixie cut. I can imagine myself pointing toĀ show length I want off⦠and theyād cut everything TO that length, not that length OFF. Know what I mean? I wouldnāt suit the pixie cut. As Iāve mentioned before, I do over think things. HOWEVER Iām not ready to throw awayĀ my efforts in growing my hair out.
And as well, itās expensive and I have no money.
It began with me snipping the split ends myself. That went well. So I did it again when the time came. Good again. Iām a pro, I think to myself. Probably shouldnāt have praised myself too much over that.
Then came layering the front. I angled the scissors and snippedy snippedy I went. Not bad! Worked pretty well. Didnāt look like I had seriously fucked up. Hereās a pic of the self snipped hairā¦

So once this had started to grow out again, and the ends were getting so split it looked like little trees were sprouting branches (see pic below for example), I thought, I should go get my hair done. But I ended up on youtube instead.
This is real hair. This is what happens to the ends. EEWWW
What do I stumble upon once on youtube? āHow to cut your own bangsā!! So, you guessed it. I just went ahead and did another home job.
Now, I wouldnāt recommend jumping into cutting your own fringe without having dabbled in the split ends trimming, because itās hard to ruin that. Itās VERY EASY TO CUT YOUR BANGS TOO SHORT.
Never fear though, I think I did okay. In fact I cut them too long, so Iāve been trimming tiny bits every day since because theyāre literally in my eyes Iām so afraid of it being too short and looking fucking terrible. Keep in mind some faces REALLY suit short fringes. Iām sure my face is not one of those however! HAVE A LOOK!
Not bad! For a first go at fringe cutting. Iām sure my hairdresser friends will disagree⦠Iām super happy with it. Although I do look like a cute mushroom sometimes. Oh well.
If I had a hairdryer or curler to shape this, I think itād be a liiiiittle betterā¦
Mushroom human.
Overall, happy Emma! Here are twoĀ brilliantĀ links to help you cut your own too!
Haley Blaisā Drunken Bangs is where it all started for me⦠Check it out. Key word ādrunkenā makes this all the better.
Cutting My Bangs was the next thing I watched⦠Sheās good for making it real, yes itās scary, but she goes very slowly.
Than I messaged Jeff (the boooyfriend) and said will you be angry if I do this? He said no, only if he could play playstation before coming back from work. Deal. He came home later, and I had cut ma bangsss!
Stay tuned for more funny, sad, love-filled and crazy stories of my life. Me. A 20 year old girl in 2016, in Berlin.Ā
Click here for my Instagram, which I use nearly every day.
Also, check this link for the music Iām loving right now.
See you in the next postā¦Ā
