Coupe and Sonar were both more into the group like Invisigal never was, they’d have the weaknesses, strengths, you name it. But in a way, Coup was definitely more in character to willingly betray the group than Sonar, even with his big ego. The difference between the two is that Robert and Mandy identifies that Coupe was still kind of ‘evil’.

Sure, it’s clear Sonar was bribed too, he mentions being ‘allowed to eat whoever’ he wants, but he also literally does that in the cut coupe route in the final battle, it wasn’t like he was being held on a leash. Hell, he started doing drugs he confiscated in a mission in the middle of a shift. I guess what I’m saying is in comparison to the two routes, Sonar’s willing betrayal feels less in character and more like just him mirroring the story as Coupe does. Honestly, I played both routes just to see what happened and I couldn’t take Sonar seriously, especially after playing Coupe’s first, I practically giggled the whole time.

Shroud isn’t above threatening a dog, we know darn well he wouldn’t flinch before doing something like brainwashing or torturing to a person with the information he wants. Especially with how obsessed he became with the astral pulse in the end.

It’s dark, but I feel like if this was something that happened to both characters regardless to the routes and their personalities, it would highlight the unfairness of cutting them and essentially leaving them to fend for themselves. Like kicking a bird (or phoenix in this case) out of their parent’s nest. Robert and Blonde Blazer owning up to these mistakes, even if they had good intentions, and trying to make up for it to the two (even if it was ambiguous on how they’d do this in the end) feels more like the refreshing outcome.

Someone asked who else Robert would have Sonar spar with. The answer is Waterboy because he's also in Robs rookie combat class ♡

Unfourtunely for Sonar Waterboy is Robert's goldstar student; Absolutely enamored with getting to participate in THE Mechaman's fighting course, takes it deadly serious, and a hero who has to do hand to hand combat normally anyway. Not to mention WBs hinted enhanced strength and durability.

So anyway he kicks Sonar's ass for a while too.

Sometimes good choices aren't enough. Sometimes you need good people on your side, too.

Robert was new to a job that would save his life, and his boss asked him to fire someone so he did it. He regretted it from square one and that only got heavier as he got to know the z team and watch them improve with his help, and saw what it did to sonar, and what visi was capable of when he put everything into trusting her.

Sonar tried to kill robert out of a desire for revenge, but Robert thinks he deserved it. So now Robert's determined to pour everything into trusting him too.
