That recent t/b wank ask reminds me of the last time I dared to take a peek at JJK Twitter (my mistake, i know. but some of the fanarts over there are worth the treacherous journey) and came across a Yuuji x Megumi shipper who was being very vocal about their very normal, very logical equation that Yuuji = warm colors = feminine = bottom.
Some people live in an entirely different world than I do- than we do.
In the JJK fandom, every day is a day to regret being literate ✨
As much as I'd like to be surprised that someone actually opened their mouth and spewed this shit out without an ounce of common sense or human decency, I am not. The "warm colors" part is incidental, let's be real. It's the feminine = bottom part that's rancid—and bigoted, plain and simple.
Here's a non-exhaustive list of similar takes I've seen or been told of by friends:
A satosugu shipper saying that Gojou being trapped in the PR is an allegory for sexual assault, making him woman-coded and thus a bottom.
Another satosugu shipper saying that Getou is a bottom because he's more obviously Asian-looking and thus more feminine than Gojou (spot the racism).
Multiple people saying that Yuuji's pink hair makes him a bottom.
Multiple people saying that Yuuji's woman/housewife-coded because he likes to cook, which also makes him a bottom.
Multiple people saying that Yuuji has big eyes in the manga, which is a bottom trait—the same crowd was also big mad at MAPPA because they thought MAPPA making his eyes smaller in the anime is why people think he's a top.
And for a little personal flavor: The OP of the twittercunts saga from a few months ago (yes, the one who later got cancelled on Twitter for racism) claimed at various points that I must be a closeted sukugo or satosugu shipper because that had to be why I write bottom Gojou—she just could not fathom the concept of people legitimately enjoying the shorter, younger, weaker half of the ship topping. No clue what her conspiracy theory for why I like top!Yuuji sukuita was, though.
The common thread in these isn't the color scheme or cooking habits or physical stature; it's the mixture of homophobia and misogyny that these people exhibit. They cannot conceptualize sexuality beyond man = top and woman = bottom, even when it comes to queer men (or queer women, for that matter). They've already settled on their top and bottom tastes, which is perfectly fine in isolation, but then they search for any trait they can call feminine so that they can "objectively" label that person a bottom—and that's where we enter virulently homophobic territory.
Many such cases! Transformative fandom is overall pretty queer these days, and I do think the assorted prejudices are better than they used to be, but you'll still find so many people who are rancid bigots, including homophobic slash shippers.
