ย ย ย ย ย Time was relative for Gabriel.ย There were things he was doing now, things he had done, and things he would do laterโand sometimes those things overlapped. Heโd done his fair share of skipping around the timeline (sometimes for business, sometimes for pleasure) but lately heโd been content to experience time as it unfolded linearly.ย ย
Maybe he was getting old.
ย ย ย ย ย But because heโd been dabbling in linear time he was able to pinpointโwithout doubt or hesitationโwhen he caught a glimpse of a familiar face.ย A familiar face heโd last seen a hundred years ago (give or take a decade).ย More interesting still: it was a human face.ย Or had been, back when theyโd first met.
ย ย ย ย ย And because Gabriel was relatively certain he was experiencing time linearly and that he didnโt need to worry about things likeย โbeing abruptโ orย โnot making a sceneโ he had no problem confirming what he knew was true. Loudly.
โBlake!โย He called, waving one arm over his head as he elbowed his way past a young couple window shopping and taking up the entire sidewalk as they did so.
โItโs you!ย Thatโs wild! Itโs been, what?ย A hundred years?โย His voice inexplicably got louder as he approached instead of quieter.ย
It wasnโt until they were face to face that Gabriel settled for speaking at a normal volume.
ย ย ย ย ย ย โYouโre still out here doing... Well, youโll have to tell me what youโre doing when we catch up.ย Right now.ย Unless youโre busy.ย In which case I can wait six minutes and then Iโm going to start snapping my fingers to hurry shit along.โย His smile was wide and his tone was joking, but there was a dangerous layer of truth below that jovial surface.
